📋 About This Mod
Made for Patch 8 - Hotfix 36, and the BG3 July Modathon 2026!

Companions have unique reactions to other companions getting downed in combat! ... Kinda. They only ever say them when you're doing Origin playthroughs, though.
This is because these reactions are gated behind having at least 40 approval for the character who was downed . This goes both ways; Avatar characters will also only react to characters who have at least 40 approval with them dying.
This means both that you'll almost never hear the unique reactions other characters have to other companions, unless you're doing an Origin playthrough, and some reactions are completely inaccessible. This includes Halsin, Minthara, Jaheira, and Minsc's reactions to each other, since none of them have Origin playthroughs!
And that's a shame tbh! A lot of those reactions are really good. Astarion's panicked "Wyll! Get up, you sweet fool!" line lives in my head rent-free forever.
This mod allows other companions to react to each other getting downed in combat, and not just when you're playing as them. It also fixes the broken caption for Minthara's reaction to Wyll getting down in combat.
Please care when more than just the leader of the pack dies. Other people matter here, too!
... Also I am sorry for now many times I had to murk you all to test this mod,

How It Works:
Reactions to other characters getting downed in combat are tied to an Osiris QRY checking for valid characters who can react to the character who got downed. These QRYs are bound to an approval threshold of 40. This mod changes the approval threshold for these QRYs from 40 to 1000, so no companions will ever meet that threshold, and adds new entries for the QRY that do not have that approval threshold. This means that the QRY entries that are gated behind that approval threshold will never return any character, causing the script to bypass them entirely, and pick characters for the reaction using my QRY instead.
Note:
Only one reaction will trigger per round of combat, to prevent reaction spam.

Compatibility:
Because this mod relies on removing the 40 approval threshold for the reaction, it is possible that another mod that adds the approval threshold back again could break this mod. This potentially includes mods that edit and include the entire GLO_CombatReactivity.txt Osiris script in their mod, without removing the DB_CombatReact_PartyDeath_ApprovalThreshold DB in that script. Afaik, there aren't any mods that do that right now, but if this mod breaks
Companion Combat Death Reactivity makes Baldur's Gate 3 companions react to the deaths of other companions during combat, not just the avatar. It also fixes a broken caption for Minthara's reaction to Wyll dying. A small quality-of-life mod for players who want more immersive companion interactions.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Adds emotional depth to combat—your party actually cares when someone drops.
- Fixes a specific, annoying bug with Minthara's caption that vanilla leaves broken.
- Simple, focused mod that does exactly what it says without bloat.
⚠️ Cons
- Small mod with limited scope—only affects death reactions, not broader companion AI.
- Last updated in July 2026—may not be updated for future game patches.
For Baldur's Gate 3 players who want more immersive companion interactions and hate seeing characters ignore fallen allies. Also for anyone who's noticed Minthara's caption bug and wants it fixed. Skip if you're looking for major gameplay overhauls—this is a subtle reactivity tweak.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you're using mod manager, just drop the file into your mods folder and enable it—no load order fuss.
- Test with a fight where a companion dies to see the new reactions; make sure you have a save before combat to reload if needed.
- Since it's a script mod, it should work with most other mods, but check for conflicts if you have other companion AI overhauls.
