📋 About This Mod

Add-on for Combat Extender that changes Extra Attack to check not just for haste effects, but also whether the character is a player or not. If the character is not a player, they act as if hasted when they have more than one action. This means they cannot benefit from Extra Attack, Improved Extra Attack and similar effects more than once a turn.

This does not affect the functionality of Action Surge for them.

Enemies tweaked by the various caster passives of the original mod gain a new resource that limits the leveled spells they can cast to one per turn. Additionally they are given appropriate cantrips to use as their second action.

The purpose of this mod is to give enemies an extra action via combat extender. Many enemies can not be "fixed" by increasing their health, as they lack the lethality to deal with players that may be stronger than normal due to mods. In order to preserve the challenge in the game, alongside a health increase enemies must be given a damage increase.

A flat damage increase is unreasonably deadly if enemies have several damage instances. Giving them an extra action is a better choice, which also allows them to do other things than deal more damage, like use control or utility options.

A problem arises however, with enemies that have extra attacks, as that can skyrocket their damage. A great example is Goblin Boss Za'krug who features the goblin gheddo version of Extra Attack as early as the intro to the Emerald Grove, where players tend to be level 2, giving him essentially four attacks.

Similarly, casters like the Entombed Scribes encountered even earlier will delete players with Ice Knife and Chromatic Orb, being able to cast two of these spells per turn.

This tweak solves these issues and rounds out enemies damage to be more of a gradual increase as you give them an extra action.

Potential Issues

This mod changes Extra Attack and similar passives, and thus may be incompatible with other mods that do the same.

Mods that add enemies might not be affected, especially if they have their own Extra Attack variants that don't inherit from the original.

Any leveled spell will be affected. Some spells aren't really spells but still have a spell level and might end up affected. This can be a good thing or bad thing. Some enemies like the Entombed Scribes do not like casting a cantrip after casting a spell, for whatever reason.

✨ Key Features

Enemies only benefit from an extra attack on their first action
Enemies cast only one leveled spell per turn

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Tightens up enemy behavior so extra actions don't snowball into unfair turns
  • Recent update (July 2025) means it's likely compatible with current game patches
  • Small but dedicated following (50 endorsements) suggests it works as intended

⚠️ Cons

  • Requires Combat Extender to function – not standalone
  • Only affects enemy extra actions, so if you want broader combat tweaks, look elsewhere
🎯 Is This For You?
For BG3 players who use Combat Extender and find enemy extra actions too punishing. If you want a more balanced challenge without removing the extra action mechanic entirely, this is for you. Skip if you don't use Combat Extender or prefer more comprehensive combat overhauls.
