📋 About This Mod
Introduction
It's no secret that Champion subclass is rather unappealing. People take it just to immediately multiclass after level 3, so underwhelming are its future features. What is supposed to be the most iconic Fighter turns out to be a disappointing mix of poorly working together passives, without any real identity or coherent toolset. There are already Champion Overhauls on Nexus but I'm not satisfied with them. I feel that they go too much in their own direction, instead of addressing the issue with the subclass.
Description
This mod revises Champion, making it more competitive and powerful, while staying true to the initial idea of the subclass. It's features are kept simple, all of them are still passives that follow the theme of general physical prowess and powerful attacks. The Revised Champion features are:
[]Improved Critical Strike is left unchanged. It's a good feature on it's own which sets the theme of the subclass and that's why people tend to take Champion in the first place. The problem is that this theme isn't further advanced by other features. Also making it more powerful would improve multiclass builds which may upset the balance and isn't my goal here.
[]Remarkable Athlete. The problem with this feature in vanilla, is that you get more benefit from if you do not have Athletics and Acrobatics proficiency. And then the bonuses are still lower than if you took the proficiency, so it's just bad. Also bonuses in Sleight of Hands or Sneak feel completely inappropriate. Jumping is generally more useful in BG3 but that's all. Instead of being truly remarkable in what you are supposed to do, you are mediocre in a lot of things, some of which you are not supposed to be doing. Basically a worse version of Jack of All Trades.
Now it gives one Proficiency and one Expertise in Athletics or Acrobatics. You may choose Proficiency in one skill and Expertise in the other or both in the same skill that you are not proficient yet. It also adds full proficiency bonus to raw Strength, Agility and Constitution checks. The jumping bonus is left unchanged Still not the strongest feature but at least now it fits the name, rewards you for having appropriate skills instead of punishing for staying true to the theme of the subclass and gives some actual benefit in combat, allowing to push, throw and use improvised weapons more effectively.[*]Press the Attack. Fighting Style for level 10 may be not entirely terrible in the tabletop, where there are 10 more levels and two more subclass features ahead of you. But getting +1 AC as a capstone feature of your subclass is just a joke. So I replaced it with a new feature:
After you've dealt a Critical Hit, you gain advantage on your next attack roll and the number required to deal a Critical Hit is reduced by 1 for one turn.
Based on further critical strike improvemen
Champion Revised reworks the Champion Fighter subclass to be more competitive and powerful, staying true to its core concept of physical prowess and powerful attacks. With 143 endorsements and 64,535 downloads, it's a popular choice for players seeking a stronger Champion.
