Balatro Agent

Allow AI agents to play Balatro. Install the mod and connect it with any AI agent app (ChatGPT/Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode, Hermes, Cursor, etc.) via MCP, and it can start playing.

1. Install Lovely and Steamodded following the SMODS wiki.

2. Unpack the download so the balatro-agent folder sits beside smods in your Mods directory (%AppData%\Balatro\Mods on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/Balatro/Mods on macOS).

3. On Windows, you can skip the manual work with the community Vortex extension.

Setup Your Agent

Follow the instructions on your agent app to connect MCP servers.

Taking ChatGPT/Codex as an example:

Go to Settings > Plugins > Add > Add MCP server

Configure it as following:

Launch the modded game. Then, open a new session; your agent should be ready to play.

Common Issues

• []The MCP server heavily relies on URI-indexed resources. To my knowledge, this feature is not stably supported by many agents yet. Your agent would not be able to play the game without proper support.[/]

  []The mod only allows the first MCP connection to operate the game. Keep only one session with the MCP server on.[/]
