Easy Lockpicking

AC3EasyLockPickChest.asi is an ASI plugin that removes all difficulty from the picklocking minigame of AC3.

The original Assassin's Creed III from 2012 has many chests in both the main game and Tyranny of King Washington DLC locked behind a picklocking minigame. This process proved to be frustrating for players on controllers, requiring precise analog input and repeatedly mashing the trigger button to break the chest's lock.

While Assassin's Creed III Remastered disabled the chest lockpicking entirely with a built-in boolean in the chest entity files, I was not able to completely replace the lockpicking minigame with automatic looting as the original game did not have that value in its files, and copying Remastered's chest files into the original stops the game from loading. I decided to take an alternate route by creating an ASI plugin that does the following to simplify lockpicking:

• []Changes Tension/Torsion angle tolerance to 360 degrees for all picklockable chests.[/]

  []Changes Raking angle tolerance to 360 degrees for all picklockable chests.[/]

  []Changes Raking fill ratio to 1. 0.[/]

Meaning:

• []You can move and hold the left analog stick in any direction to "locate and hold the tension angle".[/]

  []You can move and hold the right analog stick in any direction to "locate and hold the raking angle".[/]

  []You only have to press the trigger once, not repeatedly, to "break the lock"[/]

Now it only takes a few seconds to open those picklockable chests.

Installation:

1. Download Ultimate ASI Loader's 32-bit version: here.

2. Copy and paste the dinput8.dll file into the Assassin's Creed III directory, same location as AC3SP.exe.

3. Download the mod and copy and paste the folder "scripts" into the Assassin's Creed III directory.

The scripts folder contains both the ASI plugin as well as an INI file, AC3EasyLockPickChest.ini. The ASI runs after starting the game. The INI file has a property "Enabled=1" on by default, to turn off the ASI you can set it to "Enabled=0" then restart the game.
