Al-Farabi is one of the last remaining veterans of the old Ariana-Iraq War of the 1980s still in service with the AAF. Having joined the institution at a very young age in the '70s, this legendary pilot was trained directly by USAF Sungzon Conflict veterans to fly and maneuver F-4 and F-5 fighter aircraft.

When the 1979 Arianian Revolution irreparably soured the nation's ties with the United States, the pilot, fresh from advanced training himself, decided to dedicate his early career to teaching fellow rookies to operate these planes, earning himself the nickname "Al-Farabi", a reference to the father of modern Islamic political philosophy and known as the "Second Master", dedicated to teaching and uniquely interpreting Aristotelian philosophy. Under this new nickname, Al-Farabi was pressed into service for the 1980-1988 war against Iraq, distinguishing himself as an accomplished pilot flying both of the types of planes he had been trained on, quickly earning the title of "Ace" in early combats against the Iraqi Air Force, and even distinguishing himself when he shot down an advanced MiG-25RB reconnaissance plane while flying a vastly less capable F-5E Tiger II.

By the war's end, Al-Farabi had become one of the force's youngest pilots ever to be granted the rank of Sarhang—Persian Farsi for Colonel—a rank he has zealously refused to give up to this day, in order to keep his wings, despite constant offers by Arianian command to promote him to a staff position as a general officer in Tehran. More than 3 decades later, and despite his age, Al-Farabi still dutifully serves in the Arianian Air Force, both as a prestigious instructor and as a fully capable frontline pilot, still flying the last fighter jet he was issued in 1985 - an old, but well-maintained and much beloved F-4E Phantom II, which has since been custom-decorated to reflect Al-Farabi's fame and seniority within the AAF.
