📋 About This Mod

Purpose of Mod:

This mod addresses a problem that's been bothering me for a while now.  Loot in 7 Days to Die is stupid, in several ways.

For example, Wouldn't it be nice to have some chance of actually finding a grill, in... a grill?!  Or an oven?  And after all the hours I've spent playing 7DtD, I've never once found a weapon in a so-called Weapon bag.

Also, I get that trash piles should cease to exist once you've picked up the trash, but why do luggage, weapon bags, sport bags, backpacks and purses vanish when they've been looted.  Why?!

[]Still valid and functioning as designed, on 7 Days to Die version 1. 4 2022. 3. 50F1 (b8) as of Monday, May 26, 2025[/]

[]Updated for 7 Days to Die version 2. 0 as of Saturday, June 21, 2025 - Rare Pistol Patch still valid and functioning without changes.[/]

    []Still valid and functional in 7 Days to Die version 2. 5 (b23) 2022. 3. 62f2 (7670c08855a9)[/]

[]Still valid and functional in 7 Days to Die version 2. 6 Stable.[/]

    []

3.x -  I am currently using it in v. 3.x and it is mostly working, but it is not really optimized for 3.x and in particular, the Rare pistol patch is not working at all.  I do intend to update it for 3.x but it will be a while as it is not a small undertaking.

    [/]

    What this mod does:

It gives you a good chance of finding things in places where they ought to be found.  For example:

    • []Find grills in Ovens, and, well... Grills, both gas and barbecue.  (Previously, extremely rare).[/]

[]Find actual weapons in weapon bags. (Previously, impossible!  Seriously, they weren't in the loot group at all!) (Ok, so after further digging in the files I found out I was wrong about this one, but still it was ridiculous that there was a strong chance of not finding a weapon in a weapon bag.  That's not a weapon bag, it's a junk bag.)[/]

[]Find many different kinds of drinks in soda fountains.[/]

[]Find liquor in liquor piles, not murky water.[/]

[]Find cookpots in ovens, cupboards, and dishwashers (Previously, rare or non-existent)[/]

[]Find basic pistol(s) or hunting knife (or knives) in cars at about the same likelihood as in toilets.  If you find too many for your liking, there is now an optional file: "Sensible Lootz - Rare Pistol Patch" which drastically reduces the chance of finding a knife or pistol in cars.[/]

[]New in v. 1. 1. 1 - Removes "Forge Ahead" magazines from Cement Mixers, because nobody stuffs magazines in cement mixers.  Instead, find more concrete mix.  If you don't like that, feel free to keep using v. 1. 1. 0.[/]

Finally: Luggage, weapon bags, sport bags, backpacks and purses no longer inexplicably vanish.

What this mod DOES NOT do:

Originally, I wanted certain items to always be found in certain containers (e.g. at least one weapon in a weapon bag) and then a chance for something else (e.g. magazines, weapon parts, other things weapon related).  Unfortunately I wasted hours trying to make that happen before discovering that isn't how 7DtD loot works.  Yes, there's a "guaranteed" loot probability, but even that has its limits.  The only way to make it so that any given item is truly guaranteed to spawn is to remove all the other items from the container's loot list, and that's not what I wanted.  So if anyone knows how to make it happen, please let me know. For now, this is the best I can do.

I hope you find this mod a useful and enjoyable enhancement to your mod library, but if not, thank you anyway for reading this far!

      Installation:

I maintain that Mod Manager programs are excellent when they work, but while 7 Days is no longer in Alpha, I still see reports that Mod Managers install files from mods to incorrect folders. I've seen too many reported problems which are traceable back to a Mod manager that failed to install the mod properly.  I still strongly recommend that the mod be installed manually.

Upon receiving a report that Vortex successfully installs the mod correctly, I have decided to enable the option to download with a manager.  If you ignore my warning and
