Tess Masters (in gaming) Voice Pack

Here's arguably one of the voices I always liked the most just by the sound of it, mixed with an attitude and lines I always cracked a laugh at. Now you can enjoy it too!

But first, PsyCHo needs some big endorsement on this one, cause otherwise without him, I would've never gotten Gears 5's lines. He really wore "la número 10" on this one. So if you're an Xcom 2 player, big chances his catalogue includes something you'll like!

This one is a complete remake and replacement (as in, won't be compatible at all as far as I know) of an old Bernie Mataki vp I've made years ago. This one includes everything that one had, plus a LOT more, and it also takes into consideration stuff I learned ever since then. Basically a bigger, better, badder version.

Should include more than 1400 lines plus what chopped into more lines and stuff.

All Killer No Filler:

This one's pretty big and it's pretty much 95% combat shoutouts (little narrative stuff for me to pull classy Ruby stuff and stretch the meaning off). So it's literally a ton of screaming, swear words and stuff that pretty much shouts "badass sectoid stomper"!

So it's basically:

Marissa 'Tweed' Ronson from Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. She has a slight brit accent here with slangs and stuff. There's some references to RE's world (she'll namecall the aliens as zombies, Nemesis, Lickers, etc, etc. Will even namedrop Umbrella and refer to the team as Echo Six).

Bernadette 'Bernie' Mataki from Gears Of War 3, Gears Of War 4 (up to Title Update 5) and Gears 5. Here she has a slight aussie accent, and will reference the Gears universe by refering to her fellow soldiers as "Gears" and WILL namecall the enemies as GoW Locust/Swarm enemies (Boomers, Kantus, Corpsers, etc).

If you don't like the references to the franchise, don't use the vp, it's not negotiable!

Funky details:

Anyways, as I mentioned previously, my extraction of Gears Of War 4 was only up to Title Update 5. If more lines were included past that, that didn't come back in G5, then I don't have them, although if you own the game and wish to lend a hand, that'd be amazing.

ALSO also; some Gears Of War 3 development history. Originally, Tess Masters was going to voice Sam Byrne, but later it was decided that she would be voiced by Claudia Black. I imagine that was pretty late into development cause Sam only has a couple of "Sam named" vofx files (vocalizations/efforts: the ouchies, the breathies and the screams).

My ears tell me that some of Bernie's vofx in GoW3 were actually voiced by Claudia Black, and a LOT of GoW 3's lines, especially the vofx were brought back into GoW4 and G5. So if some of her panic screams and stuff sound like Sam Byrne, now you know why.

ALSO ALSO also; some of her spoken Gears of War 3 lines were brought back into GoW 4 with a bigger bitrate, and in Gears 5, some of her lines from both GoW 3 and 4 were brought back with an even bigger bitrate. In my opinion, I'm not sure if they're artificial "upgrades" to old files or straight up using the original recordings but with less compression (they sound a bit different, although I'm not sure if in a necessarily better way).

Personally, I decided to use the oldest versions of each line available. If in the future I decide to also add the new ones as alternatives, I'll most likely still leave the old ones around (making the lines that didn't get "repeats" like that less frequent to play ingame).

The future?

I am aware that Tess was present in other games, namely League Of Legends, Bioshock Infinite and I believe Mad Max? Anyways, for League Of Legends I skipped her files cause those had a very noticeable filter to them, and for the other games she voiced, it was unnamed characters.

If I ever get my hands on those and happen not to sound completely different to what's included here, sure I'll most likely add them. But it's a big IF.

Installation for Long War users:

1) To install...go to XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW\XComGame\CookedPCConsole, create a folder named "Voice" if you need it, and place the first folder that came inside the .rar file.

2) Then go to XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW\XComGame\Config, open DefaultContent, then press ctrl + f
