Backstory: (Yaki Spoilers Ahead)

For far too long the Yaki have cowered under the shadow of Xenon occupation.  Ever cautious, careful not to draw the eye of the great machine mind, the Yaki have languished, prisoners to fear, a faint echo of their former glory.  Only rarely can they dare send out an occasional raid to steal what meagre supplies they can from the Terrans, the Commonwealth, or Zyarth.  But even then, these minor raids can only delay the inevitable end of Yaki civilization.  And it will not be a glorious end, but a quiet, pointless one, when the last of the supplies runs out.  But there are those who dream of a brighter future: one where the Yaki can flourish and thrive, despite the Xenon.  And there is one man who sees an even brighter future: one where not only Yaki, but all of humanity can thrive, and not despite the Xenon - but by becoming one with them.

Enter Helix, a small cabal of elite hackers founded by Demian "De-Rezzed" Reznor, a legend among the Yaki - or at least he used to be.  His ideas burned across the station's population like an oxygen fire, inspiring hearts and minds, but the Yaki leadership found these ideas dangerous.  He was banished, along with his handful of followers, before his ideas could take hold among the hope-starved populace.  Since then, Helix has worked long and hard on their dream, in the Deus Ex Machina, their isolated outpost in Savage Spur, shunned by the Yaki elders.  And now, Demian has succeeded where no other Yaki could: he has gained access to the Xenon machine network.  Granted, it's limited access, but it's a turning point for humanity.  With this access, he can make limited use of Xenon facilities, and with it delved deeper into the Xenon machine mind than ever before - accessing an ancient Terraformer protocol which directs the Xenon to provide limited organic support in their primary facilities.  Their ancient capitalistic Terran creators even hard-coded credit transactions into the core software!  Through this protocol, it may finally be possible to hybridize Xenon technology, and then, full cybernetic assimilation, and ultimately, Apotheosis.  But such lofty goals must wait.  There is much work to do.
