📋 About This Mod

An overhaul of the Quen sign mechanics, with the aim of providing better balance and challenge for combat.

All my mods were made in OG (

1. 31/1. 32

game version), and then the changes were transferred to NG (

4. 04+

game version) scripts. I always post

two separate

versions in

one archive

if necessary. If there is only one version in the archive, it is universal. If the mod is only for OG, I will especially note this.

If you use a mod manager, you should repack the archive with the mod, leaving in it only what is suitable for your version of the game. Why don't I post separate archives? It's more convenient for me.

Description in English:

There is a More Better Balanced Quen mod that offers, in my opinion, a much better basic Quen concept than vanilla (or any other mods). Unfortunately, it's very raw, has a few bugs, and doesn't integrate well with other game mechanics. I have been working for many years to improve this mod when I found problems in its design. At this point, I think I've solved them all. So, let's move on to the description.

The essence of the mod is that the basic Quen only absorbs a certain percentage of attack damage, and at the same time can withstand several blows (for example, from 2 to 5), depending on the size of the damage and the Sign intensity. This provides longer-lasting, but at the same time not absolute protection.

Also, judging by the description of the mod, Quen should not block effects with damage, but protect against this damage by gradually reducing the strength of the shield. However, this part doesn't fully work in the original mod for several reasons at once.

Now about the changes I made. In fact, the mod was rewritten almost from scratch, and only the idea remained from the original.

- Due to the original author's mistake, the damage from the effects did not gradually reduce the strength of the basic Quen's shield, but almost instantly destroyed it.

Now it works correctly.

- Bleeding damage did not interact with Quen in the same way as other effects – it always passed through the shield without damaging it, but it dealt health damage.

Now bleeding works just like other effects.

- Although in the original mod Quen didn't interrupt the damage effects that Geralt already had, he still prevented them from being added when he was active, which didn't fit well with the concept of non-absolute defense.

Now Quen DOESN'T interfere with adding effects.

Improvements

- Now, instead of a bunch of different versions, you can set the minimum and maximum number of hits that the basic Quen can withstand in the menu.

If you set both of these numbers to the same – the basic Quen will always withstand the same number of hits, regardless of the damage and Sign intensity.

- Now, instead of a bunch of different versions, you can adjust the percentage of damage that the basic Quen absorbs in direct hits and when taking damage from effects (two different options) in the menu.

This gives you a lot of room for fine-tuning. For example, a basic Quen can completely protect you from direct damage, but at the same time completely pass through the damage from effects. The choice is yours!

Please note that the greater the percentage of damage absorbed by the basic Quen, the more shield strength is spent on it, and vice versa (of course, no more or less than the maximum and minimum number of hits assigned in the menu, if we are talking about direct damage, but nevertheless).

- Since the basic Quen now only partially blocks damage, it no longer protects you from losing adrenaline, bonuses from certain decoctions (such as Wyvern), Aerondight charges, and the Bloodbath mutation effect.

I believe that this should not happen – so now the basic Quen protects you from losing all of the above, regardless of the damage taken.

- In vanilla, both Quen modes can protect you from the effects of losing balance at the cost of their total destruction. Personally, this is very annoying for me, especially with the premise that the basic Quen in this mod should be able to withstand more blows.

Now the basic Quen, instead of being instantly destroyed, will lose some of its durability, as from a very weak attack, and the alternate Quen will use up an additional 10 points of stamina.
