📋 About This Mod
Tired of Witcher 3 freezing for a split second every time something new appears on screen? This mod kills shader compile stutter. It records every pipeline the game creates (graphics, compute, ray tracing), warms the GPU driver cache in the
WITCHER 3 LESS STUTTER FPS BOOST SHADER CACHE
Kill the micro freezes. Keep the FPS.
The problem
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered doesn't compile shaders when it loads. It compiles them when it needs them. Every new NPC material, every spell effect, every region you ride into for the first time triggers a pipeline compilation that freezes your frame for 20, 50, sometimes 1000+ milliseconds.
That micro freeze when you turn the camera in Novigrad? Shader compile.
That hitch when a new enemy type spawns? Shader compile.
That stutter when you cast Igni on a new surface? Shader compile.
This mod attacks the root cause.
What it does
A lightweight d3d12.dll proxy sits between the game and the driver and:
-
[]Records every graphics pipeline, compute pipeline, root signature and ray tracing state object the game creates, deep serialized and byte perfect[/]
[]Replays them on a background thread through the GPU driver before and during gameplay, populating the driver's persistent shader cache[/]
[]Injects previously recorded native blobs so known pipelines instantiate near instantly, even after a driver cache wipe[/]
[]Shares via an opt in community cache server: download the latest merged cache on game start, upload yours to help everyone else[/]
From the second session on, when the game asks for a pipeline, the driver already has it compiled. No compile, no stall, just smooth.
Real numbers
Vanilla session: ~167 stalls above 20ms.
Same session with a warm cache: 2.
That's not marketing. It's what the proxy's own timer measured.
What's in the box
-
[]The proxy. Records, replays, injects. Self healing: stale or rejected caches fall back cleanly to normal game behavior. It cannot brick your game.[/]
[]A seed cache. 16,600+ pipeline entries recorded across base game, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine content, signs, NPCs and day/night lighting variants.[/]
[]Community server. Uploads reviewed and merged by hand. Nothing auto publishes.[/]
[]12 languages. Installer, config and readme localized.[/]
Install
-
[]Extract the zip (do NOT run from inside the archive)[/]
[]Run install.bat and accept the administrator prompt (the game folder lives in Program Files). It auto detects Steam/GOG, asks 2 optional community cache questions (default yes)[/]
[]Play in DX12 mode[/]
IMPORTANT - first launch: the game may sit on a black screen for several minutes on the very first launch (one-time pipeline warmup - your driver is pre-compiling ~16k pipelines, not frozen). Every launch after that is normal.
Uninstall: run uninstall.bat, removes everything cleanly. Your cache folder in Documents is kept (or delete it manually). The mod never touches your GPU driver's own shader caches.
Community cache (opt in)
During install you choose:
-
[]Upload: share your recorded cache so the whole community benefits[/]
[]Update: on game start, check the server for the latest merged cache and pull in any new pipelines[/]
Both default to yes, both can be changed later in d3d12_proxy.ini under . Uploads go to a review queue and are published manually by the maintainer. Nothing is ever published automatically.
Honest limits
-
[]Fixes shader compile stutter. It does not fix asset streaming hitches or CPU/AI spikes, and it won't raise average FPS on already smooth scenes.[/]
[]First session on a brand new game build still records (one pass). Then it's smooth forever.[/]
[]Compatible with RTSS/Afterburner overlays, DLSS Frame Gen and other script mods.[/]
[]ReShade: compatible keep its DLL as dxgi.dll next to the exe (the installer moves it automatically). Our proxy loads it and routes D3D12 through the hooked system module, so the overlay works. Verified in-game.[/]
Requirements
-
[]The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered (v4.x), DX12 mode[/]
