📋 About This Mod

Conservative DX12 memory/streaming tweaks aimed at reducing VRAM pressure, lingering resource buildup, and save-load memory spikes in The Witcher 3 Next-Gen.

DX12 VRAM Relief is a small configuration tweak mod for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen. It adjusts a handful of memory cleanup, texture unloading, resource prefetching, and garbage-collection-related engine settings with the goal of reducing VRAM pressure and lingering resource buildup during longer DX12 sessions.

This mod was made for players who experience VRAM usage continuing to climb past their GPU’s capacity, followed by heavy shared-memory/pagefile usage, stuttering, instability, or crashes. Reloading a save may sometimes clear the issue, but not always. These tweaks are intended to make the engine unload and clean up resources more aggressively without making extreme changes to texture quality, ray tracing, or visual presets.

This is not a guaranteed fix for every DX12 memory issue. The Witcher 3 Next-Gen DX12 renderer can behave differently depending on GPU, driver, resolution, ray tracing settings, texture settings, installed mods, and session length. Treat this as a conservative mitigation mod.

What it changes:

  • []Increases texture unload speed[/]

    []Reduces sector/resource prefetch distance[/]

    []Reduces mesh prefetch offset[/]

[]Shortens memory unloader delay and grace period[/]

    []Increases cleanup iteration count[/]

[]Lowers mesh and ray tracing pool memory trigger thresholds[/]

    []Increases automatic discard count[/]

The mod does not change texture resolution, ray tracing presets, RTXGI probe settings, lighting quality, grass density, shadow quality, or gameplay values.

Installation:

Install with Vortex or another mod manager that supports game-root deployment.

The archive is already structured for Vortex installation. It places a single configuration file here:

bin/config/platform/pc/dx12_vram_relief.ini

Compatibility:

This mod should be compatible with most gameplay, texture, lighting, and visual mods.

Possible conflicts are limited to other mods that edit the same exact engine settings in bin/config/platform/pc/*.ini files. If another mod changes the same keys, whichever file loads last may win.

Recommended use:

This mod is intended for the Next-Gen DX12 version of The Witcher 3. It is most relevant for players using high-resolution textures, ray tracing, long play sessions, or systems where VRAM overflow causes heavy RAM/pagefile usage.

Uninstallation:

Remove the mod with your mod manager. Since this only adds an override .ini file, uninstalling it should revert the affected settings back to your existing game/mod configuration.

This mod was developed with the assistance of agentic AI tools, which were used to help inspect configuration behavior, reason through possible DX12/RT memory-management parameters, organize the changes, and prepare the release materials.
