Wartales Save Editor

A free, standalone save editor for Wartales. One .exe, no installer, nothing to configure, no internet access.

It writes a backup of your save before every single change. Keep your own copy anyway.

  Requirements

  • []Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Nothing to install - no . NET, no Python, no runtime. It is all inside the .exe[/]

    []Wartales installed. The editor reads your game folder for item, skill and class names, and finds it through Steam by itself[/]

    []Fully offline. The tool makes no network connections at all[/]

    How to use it

    • []Close Wartales first. On exit the game rewrites its own files, and your edit would be lost[/]

      []Run Wartales-SaveEditor.exe - there is no installer[/]

      []Pick a save from the list at the top and press Open. The File... button opens a save from anywhere else[/]

      []Change what you need, then press SAVE in the top right corner[/]

      []Start the game[/]

      Your saves

      • []Before every write, the original file is copied into a backups folder next to the program. Nothing is ever cleaned up - the copies stay[/]

        []After writing, the file is read back and checked: signature, contents, structure. If anything does not add up, the editor puts your original back itself and tells you so[/]

        []It refuses to write into a file that is damaged, or that was made by a different version of the game[/]

        []If Wartales is running when you press SAVE, the editor stops and says so. The game rewrites its files when it exits, so a write made while it is open would quietly vanish[/]

      Even so: keep a copy of your save folder somewhere of your own. No tool is a substitute for that.

      Important - two ways to break an item

      I ran into both of these in game, and both are easy to avoid.

      • []Do not replace an item that is equipped on a fighter. The game stops understanding it: you cannot unequip it, and no tooltip appears when you hover over it. Unequip the item in game first, put it in the party stash, then close the game and edit it here[/]

        []Do not give a fighter a weapon his class cannot use. A two-handed sword on an axe fighter breaks in exactly the same way. Replace an item with one of the same type - an axe for an axe, a bow for a bow. The replacement list already defaults to the right type; switching it to "all types" should be a deliberate choice[/]

      If you have already hit this, take the file back from the backups folder.

      "Windows protected your PC" and antivirus warnings

      The editor is a Python program packed into a single .exe and it is not code-signed. Packers look like packers, so SmartScreen and some antivirus engines complain. Detections ending in !ml are machine-learning heuristics rather than an actual finding.

      No game files are included in this download

      The archive holds three files: the program and two readme files. Nothing belonging to Wartales is redistributed. Item pictures are left out on purpose - that artwork belongs to Shiro Games, so on the first run the editor builds them from your own copy of the game instead. Three seconds, in the background; if the game is not found it sim
