📋 About This Mod

Boost your FPS. so... I observed an FPS increase of more than 3x in a game where I was playing as the server in multiplayer mode.

Description

VEIN Performance Mod is a config-only performance mod for VEIN 0. 024h8 (Unreal Engine 5. 6. 1). No binary patches, no asset replacement. Every change is a documented engine or game console variable that the developers can merge straight into DefaultEngine.ini / DefaultScalability.ini.

The key finding behind it: VEIN is game-thread (CPU) bound, not GPU bound. On an RX 7900 XT the GPU needs 3. 4 ms per frame at 534x300 and only 4. 8 ms at native 1600x900, while the game thread needs 9 to 13 ms. Lowering Resolution Scale or using FSR Performance gives you a blurry picture and almost no FPS. This mod trims the parts of the game thread that configuration can reach and makes the texture pool follow your VRAM.

Measured (same save, same spawn point, 40 s stationary, CSV profiler):

Run pair            Frame time        Game thread       FPS

Baseline 1 -> Mod 1  11. 55 -> 10. 41 ms  11. 41 -> 10. 28 ms  86. 6 -> 96. 1

Baseline 2 -> Mod 2   9. 36 ->  8. 71 ms   9. 26 ->  8. 60 ms 106. 8 -> 114. 9Run-to-run noise is about ±1. 5 ms because zombie and vehicle activity differs after every load. The per-system gains (UI, navmesh, GC hitch) repeated in every run.

What it does not do: the biggest game-thread costs (TickActors, CharacterMovement) and the 2. 25 GB always-loaded persistent level (10,709 spline meshes with unique cooked collision, 1,116 vehicles) cannot be fixed by configuration. The full technical report with those findings is included in the download (HTML + PDF) for the developers.

Installation instructions

Main file (recommended): VeinPerformanceMod-1. 0.zip

  • []Extract the zip into your VEIN install folder (Steam: right-click VEIN > Manage > Browse local files). It contains Vein\Content\Paks\zzz_VeinPerf_P.pak, so after extracting the pak sits next to pakchunk0-Windows.pak.[/]

    []Start the game. It shows its standard "You have unofficial mods installed" notice once per launch. That is the game's own mod detector; click through it.[/]

    []Play. The first session records your shader pipelines; from the second launch on they are precompiled.[/]

    []Uninstall: delete zzz_VeinPerf_P.pak. Nothing else is written to your install.[/]

Optional file: VeinPerformanceMod-1. 0-IniVariant.zip (no mod notice, manual)

  • []Open Vein\Saved\Config\Windows\Engine.ini in Notepad (create it if missing).[/]

    []Paste the contents of Engine.ini.txt from the zip at the end of the file and save.[/]

    []This variant has everything except the VRAM-aware texture pool, because the game deletes a user-layer Scalability.ini on exit. Uninstall by deleting the pasted lines (the game strips the comments on exit, the keys stay).[/]

Check it is active: Vein\Saved\Logs\Vein.log contains "Mounted Pak file '../../../Vein/Content/Paks/zzz_VeinPerf_P.pak'" and "Set CVar []". In game, press Insert for the console and type Slate. EnableGlobalInvalidation; it prints 1.

Recommended in-game settings afterwards: Resolution Scale 100, Upscaling Method None or FSR Quality, Anti-Aliasing TSR, Texture Quality Epic. Shadow and View Distance barely move the frame time on this build.

Main features

[]Slate global invalidation (Slate. EnableGlobalInvalidation=1): HUD/UI game-thread cost 1. 24 ms -> 0. 91 ms, consistent in three interleaved A/B pairs. Inventory, equipment and pause menus verified.[/]

[]Incremental garbage collection (gc. AllowIncrementalReachability=1, gc. AllowIncrementalGather=1, 2 ms limit): the stock 34-48 ms GC freeze frame becomes ~8 frames of max 17 ms.[/]

[]Persistent PSO cache (r. ShaderPipelineCache. SaveUserCache=1): runtime-compiled shader pipelines are saved to Saved\Vein_PCD3D_SM6.upipelinecache and precompiled at the next launch. The shipped cache contains only 31 entries; a session compiles 90-330 at runtime.[/]

[*]Animation update-rate optimizations (vein. Animation. UpdateRateOptimizations=1): distant and off-screen characters animate at
