Build a character, not a skill bar

By default, Path of Valheiman replaces vanilla skill progression with one character level and one interconnected passive tree. Your equipment and food still matter, but your long-term identity comes from the path you choose.

  • []Weapon specializations: bows, crossbows, knives, swords, axes, spears, polearms, clubs, fists, shields, staves, bombs and more.[/]

[]Combat mechanics: critical hits, projectiles, area, parry, stagger, bleeding, thorns, life steal and execute.[/]

[]Elemental paths: fire, frost, lightning and poison, with ignite, frostbite, shock, poison and corrosion ailments.[/]

[]Defence: armour, evasion, energy shield, blocking, resistance and recovery.[/]

[]Life beyond combat: building, farming, gathering, hunting, cooking, brewing, sailing, fishing and animal care.[/]

Small nodes strengthen a path. Notables reward commitment. Keystones can transform a build with powerful benefits and meaningful drawbacks. Masteries offer shared choices across the tree, letting repeated clusters expand a specialization without stacking the same option twice.

    Six sectors, countless routes

    • []Strength: heavy combat, shields, armour, fire, thorns, smithing, building and mining.[/]

[]Dexterity: bows, fists, stealth, evasion, frost, hunting, exploration and stamina.[/]

[]Intelligence: staves, spells, lightning, critical hits, energy shield, farming, cooking and alchemy.[/]

[]Strength + Dexterity: spears, axes, crossbows, parry, bleeding, woodcutting and fishing.[/]

[]Dexterity + Intelligence: knives, bombs, throwing, poison, backstabs, gathering, sailing and riding.[/]

[]Intelligence + Strength: swords, polearms, corrosion, livestock, beekeeping, mead and weapon oils.[/]

Professions that grow with what you do

Woodcutter, Miner, Hunter, Farmer, Wayfarer, Cook, Forager, Sailor, Fisher, Builder, Beekeeper and Herder each have their own progression ladder. Complete milestones through ordinary play, unlock talent choices and build a life outside combat that feels just as deliberate as your weapon setup.

Profession talents can reveal animal trails, sense nearby ore, improve planting and harvesting, recover arrows, strengthen cooking and brewing, protect a traveller's grave, help a ship hold course and much more.

      Understand the tree before spending

Press P to open the tree. Search by weapon, mechanic, attribute or effect. Pan and zoom freely, press Home to fit the whole tree, and use Ctrl+F on Windows or Cmd+F on Mac to focus search.

Highlighted terms open the built-in encyclopedia, which explains the mod's mechanics without sending you to an external wiki. Tooltips show what a node grants, why it may be sleeping and what is required to reach it.

Changes apply only when you confirm them. Refund mode returns points for coins or Greydwarf Eyes while keeping the remaining build connected. By default, every level grants one point up to level 200; bosses, dungeons, exploration and other achievements provide more.

Built for long playthroughs and multiplayer

Your progression travels with your character between worlds. Safe tree updates preserve allocated nodes; when a node or connection truly disappears, its points are returned automatically. Nodes
