Talkative NPCs

Adds context-aware dialogue bubbles for Town NPCs. Residents react to your equipment, inventory, current biome, nearby neighbors, and world events. This mod makes your town feel alive by giving NPCs a voice. They now notice items in your bags, the tier of armor you are wearing, which neighbors are nearby, or the fact that a boss was recently defeated. 💬 Join Discord server Note: The code and dialogue lines in this mod are AI-generated. I conceptualized the project, then manually reviewed, filtered, and tested everything to ensure quality. Dynamic Interaction The dialogue engine picks topics based on your character's state. A Merchant might comment on your wealth, the Arms Dealer reacts to your ammo count, and the Guide offers feedback on your gear. NPCs also acknowledge their neighbors, reacting differently depending on who is living nearby. Each NPC has unique conditions for their speech. Visuals and Animation Dialogues appear in bubbles featuring the NPC's head icon. These include a text reveal effect, head bobbing, and typing sounds. NPCs gain simple idle animations like blinking and talking frames to match their speech. Progress Tracking An integrated statistics page allows you to track your discovery of unique lines. You can see how many dialogues you have triggered for each NPC category, making it a goal to find every possible interaction. Dialogue Customization You can manually edit NPC lines or add your own using a JSON injection system. Use the /chatterdump command to export all current dialogue to Documents/My Games/Terraria/tModLoader/ChatterNPCs/. Open the folder for your language, edit the JSON files to your liking, and Reload Mods to apply the changes. You can either expand existing categories or replace them entirely. Customization Almost everything is adjustable in the Mod Config. You can change bubble colors, text reveal speed, and activation ranges.
