X 3421 Ion Bolt

When the Diolysis corporation first announced project ion bolt, no one was sure what would transpire. After all, the corporation was known mainly for it's large hulking war machines, so the plans to build a small, agile, lightly armored hovercraft were a surprise. A small new corporation by the name of better future partnered up with Diolysis, allowing them to experiment with better future technology in exchange for a small part of any profits that Diolysis made on any vehicle they produced using the better future technology. The result was the X 3142 Ion bolt. It was a cheap, reliable craft with a small amount of firepower, great handling, and an experimental ion overdrive, that heated up the particles in the air using electricity and expelled it, allowing it to travel at 190 miles per hour while it was activated. V2 of the ion bolt improved just about everything, adding more armor and firepower, including an underslung gatling laser and top mounted fast firing laser guns. It traded out old and outdated tech for new better future parts. It also included an overhauled ion drive system, which slowed down the cruising speed to 85 mph from 100 mph. However when activated, the craft could accelerate to almost triple that speed, easily capable of reaching 220 miles per hour! It was able to keep this ridiculous speed for 8-10 seconds, making it travel 2,576 feet in 8 seconds. At the time it was and may still be the most modernized compact fighter hovercraft built to date. The real definition of state of the art technology. However after better future updated it's hover pads, a problem arose. Every time the overdrive was activated, the cab of the ion bolt would crash into the ground, causing extreme damage if not immediately stopped. This made the ion bolt virtually worthless, as it was based around the ion drive, and it could not simply be removed. So the project was left in the background, forgotten, for months.
