Krakatoa

Krakatoa is an island with large volcano that erupted on 5/26/1883 with one of the biggest explosions in recorded history. It sits between the islands of Sumatra and Java which are part of the Indonesian Island Arc. The volcano had some minor activity prior to that fateful day and debris is thought to have filled up the the neck of the volcano causing a blockage which caused the later explosion. Once the pressure grew high enough the volcano exploded throwing debris over 15 miles high and the explosion was heard almost 3000 miles away in Australia. The explosion had the force of over 200 Megatons of TNT. For scale the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in WWII was 20 kilotons, 10,000 times less powerful. And the explosion is believed to be about 10 times more powerful than the eruption of Mount St. Helens.

After the explosion people began to return to the island seeking to make a home of the now thriving island. Many settlements were created across the island and they turned it into their new home. But was the volcano dormant or was it just between eruptions? Travel to this island to figure out that fate of the initial settlers of the new Krakatoa. But travel at your own risk as seismology reports have shown some activity from the volcano recently.

Krakatoa is an extra large map with the largest volcano of any stranded deep map I have seen up to this point. The volcano is climbable through many different paths with multiple camps spread over the volcano. You can also of course climb to the top of the volcano and take "dive" to the inside of the volcano. There is so much to find on this map you may not even discover everything on your first trip. When testing this map it took 3 in game days just to check out each settlement across the map and that's with knowing exactly where each one is and how to get to it. This is a very beautiful map with a lot of fun areas to check out and a lot of loot as a reward for your exploration.

I really hope everyone enjoys Krakatoa. This has been my longest project yet and it was very challenging to get it right. The map has gone through many complete revisions trying to figure out a way to create the volcano without making the whole island just kill fps, making the volcano itself be fully explorable, making a way to get inside the volcano and a way to still have the rest of the island be useable like every other map. I have been making this map for a few weeks and almost gave up on it a few times. But honestly with the creativity of some of the maps other creators have made I found a way I could make it work. I have to say the pictures I took do not do the island or the volcano justice. It was difficult to get good screen shots of the volcano from far away to show the scale of the volcano without it being out of render distance and just looking terrible. I would love to hear any feedback you have and if you like the map definitely check out some of the other maps I have made like "The Cove", "Shipwreck", "Paradise Island" and if you think you are brave enough "The Pit."
