Kael Venn

Kael Venn tells people he used to be a pop star. He tells people a lot of things - that he once performed for a planetary governor, that his face was on a billboard three moons wide, that he gave it all up because "the industry stifled his artistic soul." Maybe it's true. Maybe it's a story he spun so many times he started believing it himself. What is true is that he's talented - genuinely, irritatingly talented. He can sing like a songbird, shape metal into art with nothing but fire and nerve, sculpt expressions into stone that seem to breathe, and fix anything with moving parts while making it look effortless. He can't resist a pretty face, though. And he'll never tell you who the daughter was. He'll flash that crooked grin, toss his dye-stained hair, and murmur something vague - "a man doesn't kiss and tell" - but he knows. He knows exactly whose daughter she was, and he knows exactly why the ship went down. Someone with enough pull to make a transport vessel malfunction at precisely the wrong altitude, and enough cruelty to sign off on a hundred other souls just to make sure Kael Venn was among the dead.
