📋 About This Mod
Description:
This mod tweaks the helmet flashlight with the aim of making it more realistic. It widens the angle significantly and decreases luminosity for less reflectivity and less piercing brightness.
There are other cool flashlight mods out there, but the main reason I made this one was that no other mods seem to address the overblown specular shine from the flashlight. Specular light is used mainly for reflections of metallic or glass surfaces and I found this to be overused in Starfield.
I eventually got tired of getting blinded when walking up to metallic doors and glass surfaces, so I decided to create a version of flashlight that has no specular light at all. There's also a version that includes Specular light but with reduced brightness, sort of a middle ground between the extremes. Pick the one that you prefer most. They all have wider illumination which is what many other flashlight mods lack.
In the end, I made six different options:
- Yellow Light with specular | + all surfaces look great | - flash reflections are visible
- Yellow Light(Narrower) with specular | + all surfaces look great | - flash reflections are visible
- Blue Light with specular | + all surfaces look great | - flash reflections are visible
- Yellow Light without specular| + no blinding reflections from flashlight| - shiny surfaces can appear too dark
- Blue Light without specular | + no blinding reflections from flashlight | - shiny surfaces can appear too dark
Subtle Flashlight by BosDragon tones down the vanilla flashlight's intensity and spreads light over a wider area, reducing the harsh specular glare. With several options to choose from, it's a simple visual tweak for players who find the default flashlight too blinding. Popular with 639 endorsements and over 31k downloads.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community favorite with 639 endorsements and over 31k downloads—clearly hits the spot for many.
- Solves a real annoyance: the vanilla flashlight's blinding specular mess is toned down.
- Multiple options mean you can tweak the effect to your liking, not just a one-size-fits-all fix.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in September 2024—might not be compatible with future game patches.
- Purely cosmetic; if you wanted gameplay changes, this isn't it.
For players who find the vanilla flashlight too harsh on the eyes and want a softer, wider spread of light. Great for those who value visual comfort over realism. Skip if you're looking for gameplay overhauls—this is strictly a visual tweak.
