📋 About This Mod
Starfield Animation Framework (SAF) is a framework for playing custom animations in Starfield, designed as a modern counterpart to NAF (Native Animation Framework) that works with current versions of the game. SAF was created for two main reasons:
- []the original CCF (Custom Command Framework) used by NAF is no longer maintained and does not work correctly with the latest version of Starfield;[/]
-
[]I needed a tool that behaves like NAF, but is built on the current ecosystem (SFSE + CommonLibSF) and on the new Modern Command Framework (MCF).[/]
The framework is an SFSE plugin. It registers its own console command saf, which lets you:
- []play animations on the player or a selected actor,[/]
- []load animations from external files (e.g. GLTF, GLB),[/]
-
[]control blend time, speed, playback mode, etc. (depending on the specific command and parameters).[/]
The internal logic of SAF is modeled after NAF:
- []the animation engine works directly on actor skeletons,[/]
- []data from animation files is mapped to character bones and applied on top of the current state,[/]
- []the structure tries to minimize interference with the rest of the game – when the animation ends, the actor returns to normal behavior,[/]
-
[]the character skeleton is the same as in NAF (HumanRace.json).[/]
Current behavior (selection + optional ID)
- []saf play <animation>[/]
- []If an NPC is selected in the console (you clicked them and their FormID is shown at the top), the animation is played on that NPC – you don’t need to type the FormID in the command.[/]
- []If no NPC is selected and there is no target under the crosshair, the animation is played on the player.[/]
- []saf play <animation> <NPC_FormID>[/]
- []Still works as before: forces the animation to play on the NPC with the given FormID, regardless of console selection.[/]
- []saf stop[/]
- []Stops the current SAF animation on the player, unless an NPC is selected.[/]
- []saf stop <NPC_FormID>[/]
- []Stops the current SAF animation on the NPC with the given FormID.[/]
-
[]If an NPC is selected in the console, you can just use saf stop without typing the FormID; the selected NPC will be used.[/]
