📋 About This Mod
A simple replacement for the Milky Way texture.

Yes I know it's not super realistic and in line with astronomical knowledge, but it's not bad looking.

Manual Installation:
- [
[]Download the mod archive.
[]Extract the Data folder from the zip into ...\Documents\My Games\Starfield.
Manual Uninstallation:

If you haven't previously installed any mods for Starfield, create or modify ...\Documents\My Games\Starfield\StarfieldCustom.ini.
Add these lines in the .ini file:
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
in the same StarfieldCustom.ini you must use these values:
;the default value is set to 40. 0 but it is best to set this value to 0. 0 otherwise the background glows if you are in space
fSpaceGlowBackgroundScale=0. 0
;the default value is set to 200. 0, you can experiment with this value, try 2000. 0 or 1000. 0, adjust it to your liking
fStarfieldBackgroundScale=1500. 0
Reminder:
The game engine uses something like IBL (Image Based Lighting), so lighting during a cloudless night, or on planets without an atmosphere, also depends on the texture of the Milky Way (and also from which part of this texture is currently visible in the sky). Keep this in mind.
And one more thing. The HDR version is not made just for HDR monitors. The game engine supports such textures and calculates lighting (IBL) based on them, so with the HDR version there is more room for maneuver, more tonal range.
Rudy HQ - More epic Milky Way texture replaces the vanilla Milky Way with a more dramatic 4K or 8K texture, offering LDR and HDR options. A popular visual overhaul for Skyrim, with over 1,000 endorsements and frequent updates.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community favorite with 1,050 endorsements and 42,612 downloads
- High-resolution 4K and 8K options for crisp visuals
- LDR and HDR variants let you match your lighting setup
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects the Milky Way texture—no other sky or space changes
- 8K textures may strain VRAM on lower-end systems
For Skyrim players who want a more dramatic night sky without overhauling the entire weather system. If you're into screenshots or immersive night skies, this is a quick win. Skip if you prefer vanilla aesthetics or have VRAM limitations.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2 to avoid overwriting other sky textures
- If you use an ENB, pick the HDR version; otherwise LDR is safer
- Start with 4K if you're unsure about performance, then upgrade to 8K if your GPU handles it
