📋 About This Mod
About
In vanilla, humanoid NPCs will play a prolonged stagger animation when taking a critical hit from a ranged weapon. Well this sounds pretty good on paper but it results in enemies getting constantly stunlocked and unable to fire a single shot back in many occasions. This mod addresses this issue by slightly modifying a few vanilla records so crits no longer trigger those dramatic staggers anymore. Moreover, enemies will still play their normal micro flinch animations when getting shot at so it still looks pretty natural if not better visually.
Please note, this mod only affect how enemy stagger to ranged weapon hits(crits). Melee and explosive all have their own separate formula for stagger and therefore left untouched. Also, enemy stagger to melee/explosives are pretty balanced as far as I'm aware of but I'm open to ideas.
Installation
This is a single esm plugin, just install it like normal.
Compatibility
Everything that not editing the same record, should be none.
No stagger Animation is compatible and complimentary, since my mod removes enemy stagger, you may want to use that to remove yours as well for a more balanced experience.
No Stagger NPCs removes the exaggerated stagger effects from human NPCs in Fallout 4, preventing easy stunlocking while keeping subtle flinch reactions. A lightweight gameplay tweak for players who find stagger mechanics frustrating, with 67 endorsements and recent updates.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Tackles a real annoyance—stunlocking—without killing NPC reactions entirely
- Lightweight and focused; does one thing and does it well
- Recent update (June 2025) means it's likely compatible with current game versions
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects human NPCs; creatures and robots still stagger as before
- Small endorsement count (67) suggests limited community testing
For Fallout 4 players who hate watching enemies get locked in stagger loops and want more fluid combat. Skip if you enjoy the dramatic stagger or use mods that overhaul NPC behavior—this might conflict.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's a simple ESP/ESL, place it near the bottom of your load order to ensure it overrides other gameplay mods.
- If you use a mod manager like Vortex, deploy and let it handle load order sorting automatically.
- Test with a few human enemies early to confirm the flinch animations still feel right for you.
