📋 About This Mod

IconSortingTags Starfield edition  is a sorting modification that uses icons. It works by adding new glyphs to the default game fonts

Languages supported are the default game ones : en, de, es, fr, it, pl, ptbr, ja, zhhans

IMPORTANT:

From now on, it's pointless to release pregenerated string files. There are too many mods and fixes out there, official and unofficial, so I will release only the icons assets and the headerRules. That way, you can patch your mods directly with xTranslator.

Unless the new mod you want to use completely changes the internal default keyword/data logic for the game, or add totally new references (with no inheritances at all), the header processor should be able to automatically add icons to almost everything relevant.

Installation:

Step1

very IMPORTANT:

if you don't already have a StarfieldCustom.ini, file

-download it under the misc tab and place it in your Documents\My Games\Starfield\ folder

-create it manually with a notepad and add this content in it:

bInvalidateOlderFiles=1

sResourceDataDirsFinal=

If you fail to do that, you will see dots instead of icons, in game.

Step2

-Use a mod manager (Vortex or MO2) to install the asset or extract manually the mod content in the starfield\data\ folder

Step3 patch yours strings files and mod with xTranslator:

-Get the lastest version of xTranslator here: https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/313 (You will need the version 1. 6. 3+), unzip it, and launch xTranslator.exe

-Set the starfield\data, in the xtranslator's options (this should be done automatically if you play on steam)

-Open the headerProcessor Wizard (menu wizard)

-Follow the points 1 to 6 in the wizard.

Note for 3: if you installed the icons asset with a mod manager the header processor wizard should be able to find the headerRules.txt automatically, otherwise you need to load it manually.

If it's loaded correctly you can see a message in the log box below, and the template list should be populated.

here is an animated gif with the process:

Notes:

-The processor does not translate your mods to another language, it only adds icon to items automatically.

-The patch only modify the name of relevant items. It's does not change any gameplay functionnality.

-The wizard works with the steam version of the game. It's not tested with other versions.

-If the esm is localized, the wizard will save strings files in your game\data\strings folder

-If the esm is delocalized, the wizard will save the esm files in your game\data\ (and make a backup of the original file)

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Since it's a UI mod, make sure to place it in your load order after any other UI overhauls to avoid conflicts.
  • Check the mod's file structure – if it's a loose file, just drop it into your Data folder; if it's a BA2, use a mod manager like Vortex.
  • Test in a save with lots of loot to see the icons in action before starting a new playthrough.
