📋 About This Mod
Description
Recommended to use with my mod Human Damage (Just a Flesh Wound - Bullet in the Head)
This is a combat AI mod that changes how enemies act.
This mod makes the following changes:
-
[]Increases enemy AI e.g. chances they will: avoid/dodge/evade threats, attack when staggered, wait, work as a group and flank etc.[/]
[]Enemies will have more realistic actions, such as more likely to go through doors, reactions to what is going on around them, viewing distances and angles etc.[/]
[]Changes to the combat style by factions e.g. spacers, crimson fleet, Vanguard and Ecliptic e.g. how aggressive and confident they are.[/]
[]NPCs no longer have unlimited grenades.[/]
[]Alien bites cause more damage than other forms of attack such as bashing and using their tails.[/]
FOMOD installer includes an optional patches:
-
[]Extreme Patch to ramp up the difficulty significantly by increasing the accuracy and distance enemies will react to things. Use the extreme patch in conjunction with Human Damage (Just a Flesh Wound - Bullet in the Head) x20 or x50 headshot multiplier to have enemies that are not only very accurate but will also kill you instantly if they get a headshot.[/]
[]Stealth patch that makes stealth more viable (but makes enemies detection worse and therefore enemies act less intelligent).[/]
The patch needs to be loaded after the main mod to work i.e. they need to overwrite the main mod. My recommendation is to not use the patch but I have included it for those of you that like a different level of a challenge. This mod can be reinstalled mid save to add/remove patch to get the balance of play to how you want it.
I have used several other combat/AI mods but liked specific things from each one that they did but not one of them did everything I liked. Therefore, I used xEdit to see what changes they made and tweaked the settings to my personal preference.
Installation instructions
-
[]Install using a mod manager, such as MO2 or Vortex. The FOMOD installer will give you options to install patches for DLCs.[/]
[]To install manually, extract the zip folder into the Data folder and activate the esm file via the Creations - Load Order section within the game menu.[/]
Will conflict with any mods that change combat style records. Load this mod after any such mods to ensure it is not overwritten.
Requirements
Base game and optionally Shattered Space and Terran Armada.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Solid track record: 316 endorsements and over 65k downloads show it's trusted by the community.
- Actively updated (July 2026) — you won't be stuck with a broken mod after game patches.
- If you're tired of brain-dead enemies, this mod promises a smarter fight without overhauling the whole game.
⚠️ Cons
- Description is vague — no specifics on what exactly changes, so you're going in blind.
- No install instructions or compatibility notes provided, which could trip up new modders.
- Being 'inspired by' other mods means it might not offer anything unique if you've already tried those.
For players who want tougher, more tactical combat without a complete game overhaul. If you've already tried other AI mods and want a fresh take, this could be your next pick. Skip if you need detailed documentation or prefer gameplay changes beyond AI behavior.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since the description lacks specifics, back up your save before installing and test on a new game to see the AI changes.
- Check the mod's comments section on the Nexus for user reports on compatibility with other gameplay mods.
- If you're using a mod manager, let it handle the installation to avoid file conflicts.
