Constellations Meanings/Common Name

This addon will display the English meaning of constellations (e.g. "Greater Bear" instead of "Ursa Major"). I modified the English locale file to translate constellation names from Latin to English. This addon is incompatible with any other addon that modifies the English locale file (which there probably isn't any). Star-gazing and constellations go back to early human history, but the modern constellations used today have their root in Ancient Greece, and have since been filled in (especially in the southern hemisphere) and modified by astronomers in the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1928-1930, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) officially recognized the 88 constellations we have today, including their abbreviations. (Source: Wikipedia) Tip: to "see" a constellation's original name, you can click on a star and see the genitive form of the name (e.g. α Ursae Majoris). To revert back to the actual (Latin) names of constellations, disable this addon in the launchpad or unsubscribe from it. Tags: - Constellations - Translations/localizations
