Custom Card Texture Loader SG is a powerful quality-of-life mod for Slay the Spire 2 that allows you to replace in-game card textures with custom images. It fully supports animated GIF card art for dynamic visuals and includes a complete texture export toolkit designed specifically for modders and content creators.

Features

1. Custom Texture Replacement

This mod automatically scans the CustomCardTextures

folder within the mod directory for custom images and replaces default card textures accordingly. It supports multiple image formats and automatically selects the highest-priority valid file.

Supported formats (load priority order):

  [].png

  [].jpg / .jpeg

  [].webp

folder relative to its DLL file with no manual configuration required.

2. GIF Animation Support

Card textures using the .gif extension are automatically decoded and played as frame-by-frame animations via a dedicated GifAnimationManager node.

  3. Interactive GIF Playback Mode

  When enabled via the ModConfig panel, GIF animations only play during specific player interactions:

  • []Card hover: Animation plays when hovering over a card in hand or card select screens

    []Card detail view: Animation plays while inspecting a card’s detailed view

    []Mouse exit / detail close: Animation pauses and resets to the first frame

  This mode greatly improves performance and delivers a more polished card viewing experience.

  4. Texture Export Tool

  The mod includes a built-in export feature that dumps all replaceable game textures as organized PNG files, sorted by category:
