📋 About This Mod
Distributes wigs from jg1's Vanilla Hair Remake to most of the NPCs covered by Bijin and Pandorable's various replacers using SPID. The goal is to give these NPCs performance-friendly SMP hair so they don't stand out from all of the others.
Once I installed Vanilla Hair Remake, I immediately wished all of the NPCs updated by Bijin and Pandorable had SMP hair too, so I created this mod.
This mod doesn't apply wigs randomly. Every NPC has a hand-chosen wig that either matches their original hair or looks similar to the hairstyle from Pandorable or Bijin's version. In cases where the Bijin/Pandorable hairstyle looks good without physics (eg. short hair or tied into a bun), the NPC won't receive a wig.
Everything here is very modular. There's only one file to download, but the FOMOD allows you to select the NPC replacers you use so you'll only get the SPID distribution files you need.
I've left out Serana and Valerica as their hairstyles are not covered by Vanilla Hair Remake, and there are other mods that replace their hair with SMP alternatives. I've also omitted Pan's Nameless Witches as they didn't play nice with wigs at all.
Customization
While the mod should work just fine without customizing it, the distribution files themselves are easy to modify. Just comment out any line you don't want, and that NPC won't receive a wig. For example, if you want to change Faendal's hair, search for his entry in the VHR_Wig_Pan_Males1_DISTR.ini file (because he was updated by Pandorable's Males 1).
;Spell = _Uvi_DarkElfHair09Spell|Faendal
;Faendal - Alternate
Spell = _Uvi_ElfHair03Spell|Faendal
You'll see that Faendal has been assigned an alternate hairstyle that was closer to the one Pandorable chose for him. If you comment out the fourth line by adding a semicolon to the beginning, Faendal won't get a wig assigned. If you also uncomment the second line, Faendal will get the wig that matches his vanilla hairstyle. If you replace _Uvi_ElfHair03Spell with _Uvi_ElfHair04Spell, then Faendal will have Elf Hair 04 instead. Make sure to keep Elf/Dark Elf hair on Elves, Orc hair on Orcs, Nord hair on humans, and Nord/Redguard hair on Redguards.
If you open these files in a program like Notepad++, certain parts will be colour-coded automatically so it's easy to see which ones have been commented out. Note that commenting out an existing line will not affect an existing save where a wig has already been applied. Adding a new line that equips a new wig should apply the new wig to the NPC. You could also use console commands to remove the spell identified in the SPID file and to remove the wig from an NPC's inventory after removing a line from the SPID distribution file.
Note
Please note that removing the SPID files or the esp file will not remove wigs from NPCs on an existing save. You can remove wigs with console commands, but it would be very tedious to remove them all. While I can't condone removing mods mid-game, if you really need to remove wigs from many or all NPCs, you could deactivate this mod as we
