Thane of Whiterun Requires Favors

To become Thane of Whiterun in the original game, you just have to complete Dragon Rising without getting to know the people of the Hold.

This mod adds an additional short quest to also require completion of Favors across Whiterun and purchase of Breezehome, like in all the other Holds.

Starting the Quest

The quest will automatically start at the end of Dragon Rising. Instead of immediately granting the title of Thane, Balgruuf will now tell you that the position is available "to someone who is known throughout my Hold, and who owns at least one piece of property in my city".

This starts a set of objectives copied from Vignar's quest Thane of Whiterun for you to Assist the people of Whiterun and Purchase a house in Whiterun. When those objectives are complete, return to Balgruuf for the standard rewards.

For completionists: If you are already Balgruuf's Thane, I have added an extra dialogue option "Is there anything else you need, my Jarl?" which will allow you to complete the objectives using the quest tracker anyway. There is no additional reward though.

Compatibility

Compatible by design with the rest of my Thanes Require Favors series:

• []Exiled Jarls Don't Require Favors - If a Jarl has been exiled by the Civil War, any active Favor quests will fail when you report back to them.

  []Miscellaneous Quests are Favors - Adds Disposition increases to all the Freeform and Favor Miscellaneous Quests which didn't have them.

  []Thane Me Slower - Increase the number of Favors required to become Thane. (For Whiterun, this will increase from 5 to 10.)

  []Thane of Riften Requires Favors - Becoming Thane of Riften requires completion of Favors instead of Miscellaneous Objectives.[]Load before Thane of Whiterun Requires Favors.

  []Thanes Require Houses - Becoming Thane of Falkreath, Hjaalmarch and the Pale requires purchase of the Hearthfire houses.

  • []Not Compatible with Whiterun without Main Quest. That mod includes the same functionality.

    []Not Compatible with Harder Thaneships. That mod includes similar functionality.

  • Use the Globals Only version of that mod alongside this one if you want to increase the number of required Favors. (For Whiterun, this will increase from 5 to 20.)

    This mod edits numerous scripts, including the Quest Fragments of FavorJarlsMakeFriends, MQ104b Dragon Rising and HousePurchase, as well as some dialogue Topic Fragments. Compatibility is therefore not guaranteed with anything else related to becoming Thane, or anything which edits Dragon Rising. Load this mod after those, but beware that those may break as a result.
