egan Rose didn't even whimper as the talented tattoo artist once again touched the buzzing, mage-powered tattoo gun to her flawless skin.  Lying on her stomach on a leather upholstered chaise longue with her long, shining hair pulled into a tight bun for safety, the gorgeous young Elven woman was working hard to remain motionless.  Despite the pain, she'd managed to do a good job of holding still.  She'd paid big money to the award-winning tattooist to have a single rose blossom tattooed onto her back, just below her neck.  She wasn't about to flinch and cause the needles to wander offline.

"You're doing great, Tegan," the attractive female tattooist said with a smile that could be heard in her voice as she lifted the gun away, then used a towel to dab off the excess ink.  She needed to take a break, for she needed  to recharge her well of Magicka.  Satisfied with the line that she'd just drawn, her Magicka replenished, she continued, "I'm almost finished.  Let me know when you need a break, yeah?"

Her eyes shut tight against the agony, Tegan Rose replied in a strained whisper, "I'm fine.  But please hurry.  I'm having a hard time keeping still."

The buzzing and the pain suddenly resumed.  Thankfully, this time the strokes were short.  "I'm doing the thorns now," the artist reported.  "Just a few more and I'll be finished."

Almost before you could say, "Bob's your uncle," Tegan Rose was sitting up on the chaise and using a hand mirror and the nearby wall mirror to see the brand new rose.  Beaming a huge smile, she was vastly pleased, for it was exactly right.  "I love it!" she exclaimed, her twinkling eyes riveted upon the reflected image.

"Tell me something," the artist said as she placed a strip of vellum that was soaked in olive oil onto the raw skin.  It was a trick that she'd learned that kept the air away from the jangled nerve endings, making things more bearable for the newly-tattooed.  "Why did you want me do draw a rose?"

Tegan Rose chuckled softly and replied, "Because my middle name is Rose.  All my life I've had roses on my bedsheets, bedspreads, and my bedroom curtains.  I collect rose-shaped jewelry.  I raise roses in my garden.  Why not have a rose tattoo?"

That made the tattooist chuckle.  "That's as good a reason as I've ever heard.  Thank you for letting me do it for you."

"You're welcome," Tegan Rose replied as she gently eased into the old blouse that she'd brought with her to wear home.  "And thank you for doing such a fine job."

Five days later, the swelling and the redness now
