📋 About This Mod
Description
Pretty simple INI tweak to up the intensity of AO. Good enough if you like strong AO without ENB. Performance impact should be the same as the default AO.
Specific tweaks:
bSAOEnable=1
fSAOBias=0. 75
fSAORadius=175
fSAOIntensity=17
If you'd like to tune things further to your liking and need a reference, these were Skyrim's default values:
fSAOBias=2. 5000
fSAORadius=250. 0000
fSAOIntensity=15. 0000
Only known "complications" are that some low poly landscape meshes may have worsened tiling. It's a potential occurrence with vanilla INIs too, just less apparent. You can maybe try leaving out the fSAOBias tweak if you want, which should lessen it's likelihood. As I said though it can still happen with vanilla settings.
99% of the credit goes to SLXJ for their FO4 mod Heavy Ambient Occlusion. Most of the INI edits were borrowed from theirs.
Install & Uninstall
To install, add the aforementioned lines to your SkyrimCustom INI file in the "Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition" folder.
Alternatively, if you don't want to edit anything, you can download and install my plugin version. Load order doesn't matter as it only loads the included INI.
To uninstall, remove those lines from your SkyrimCustom INI file. If you're using the plugin, you can just delete the plugin and it's INI.
Btw, no, the plugin version of the tweaks can't directly edit INIs. So don't worry about any residual INI edits still applying later.
Compatibility
Should be compatible with any mod/tweaks that don't edit the same lines in any of your INIs.
Same with the plugin version, as it has no records and only loads the INI tweaks for you at runtime.
Tweaks the game's INI settings to intensify ambient occlusion with no performance cost. A lightweight visual enhancement for players who want deeper shadows and more contrast in their game world. Includes an ESPFE version for load order flexibility.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 523 endorsements
- No performance hit, so it's a free visual upgrade
- ESPFE version means it won't take up a plugin slot
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects ambient occlusion, so don't expect other visual changes
- INI tweaks can conflict with other mods that modify the same settings
- Last updated in 2022, so it may not be compatible with the latest game version
For players who want deeper shadows and more contrast without sacrificing performance. If you're into tweaking visuals but don't want to mess with ENBs or heavy reshades, this is a quick win. Skip if you're looking for more comprehensive graphical overhauls.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's an INI tweak, make sure you're not using a mod manager that overwrites INI files without your knowledge.
- If you're using other mods that alter ambient occlusion settings, load this one last to ensure it takes effect.
- Check your game's version compatibility—if you're on a newer patch, test it out to see if the tweaks still work.
