Description:

There are quite a handful of Markarth retextures on Nexus, however, none of them really fit my vision of the city. So, I set out to create my own version of Markarth. I recreated every vanilla design and combined them with photorealistic material similar to my Windhelm resulting in a retexture that is faithful to the city's original look and feels. Dwemer Ruins' architecture is given the same treatment with extra grunge to make it appears appropriately old while still giving off the idea that the Dwemers are master craftsmen.

Stony AF Markarth and Dwemer Ruins covers all stone architectures, woods, and Solstheim Onyx. Dwemer Metals are not covered (I highly recommend Ancient Dwemer Metal). This mod is available in 2K, 4K, and 4K-2K. Parallax textures are included with all options. An optional file is available for new textures used in Depths of the Reach and Project AHO.

Requirement:

- Markarth Fixed AF: Soft requirement. This mod fixes many bugs and inconsistencies with Markarth meshes. These textures were made to be used alongside it. Additionally, I also retextured SMIM metal for consistency.

Compatibility:

Incompatible with other Markarth/Dwemer Ruins retexture. (load my mod after)

Compatible with Markarth - A Reflective Experience and Skyrim - A Mountainous Experience (highly recommended, load Markarth Fixed AF after both)

Compatible with Ancient Dwemer Metal (highly recommended)

Patch available for Dwemer Pipework Reworked V5, make sure textures in the patch load after both mods (huge thanks to CALEB2 for allowing me to patch for their great mod, highly recommended) V4 or earlier doesn't need a patch

  • Offers both 2K and 4K options, so you can balance quality and performance.
  • Parallax included means extra depth without needing extra mods.

⚠️ Cons

  • Last updated in June 2023 — might not be fully compatible with the latest Skyrim updates or other texture mods.
  • No explicit mention of compatibility with other popular texture overhauls, so you may need to test load order.
  • Parallax effects require a compatible ENB or shader setup, which can be a hassle for some users.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Skyrim players who want to enhance Markarth and Dwemer Ruins with high-quality textures that stay true to the original look. Ideal for those who appreciate parallax depth and have the hardware to run 4K. Skip if you prefer complete overhauls or don't want to fiddle with ENB settings.
📦 Install:Easy· 5-10 minutes

💡 Beginner Tips

  • If you're using a mod manager like Vortex or MO2, let it handle the file placement to avoid overwriting other texture mods.
  • For parallax to work, make sure you have an ENB that supports it and enable the parallax option in the ENB settings.
  • If you're on 4K, consider your VRAM — if you experience stuttering, switch to the 2K version.
