📋 About This Mod
The base game does not include 'snow' versions of the lumber mill mesh, so lumber mills in snowy areas will have no snow cover even though the area around it is covered in snow. This mod aims to rectify this by adding snow shaders to lumber mills located in snowy areas using Base Object Swapper. I am only aware of two mills in need of this update in the base game, those being Angas Mill and the Morthal Mill. Both are covered by this mod.
This mod is intended for use with Simplicity Of Snow (SOS) or Vanilla snow shaders. Snow occlusion is based on the SOS method, and this mod was made to match the look of SOS as it is my snow mod of choice. Better Dynamic Snow already includes its own solution and is not compatible with this mod.
Q: Why are the logs and saw chute not covered in snow as well?
A: The logs and saw chute are actually a separate mesh/asset from the building, and whilst the building is a static mesh the logs and chute are an animated mesh. As far as I know, snow shaders can only be applied to static meshes.
The mesh is based on SMIM with additional rounding added to the poles and pillars with visible ends, in a similar manner as mods like Optional Round FarmHouse Posts and Round Posts for Destroyed Farmhouses and Inns. Plugin is flagged as ESL.
Optional Files:
Snow Covered Lumber Mills - Parallax : Parallax enabled version of the Main File mesh. Have this file overwrite the Main File.
Snow Covered Lumber Mills - SMIM : This file replaces the mesh with the standard SMIM mesh (lower poly than Main File, see Images for details). Have this file overwrite the Main File.
Snow Covered Lumber Mills - Vanilla : This file replaces the mesh with the Vanilla mesh (lower poly than SMIM, see Images for details). Have this file overwrite the Main File.
Mandatory Requirements:
Base Object Swapper for SE and AE
Base Object Swapper VR for Skyrim VR
Installation:
Use your preferred mod manager to install as per normal.
Use only one Optional File.
Ensure Optional Files overwrite Main Files.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Lightweight and focused—does exactly what it says without bloat
- Community-tested with 158 endorsements and 38k downloads
- Recently updated (July 2025) so it's likely compatible with current setups
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects lumber mills—if you want broader snow coverage, this won't do it
- Requires Base Object Swapper, so you need to grab that dependency first
- Potential conflicts with other mods that alter lumber mills or use BOS for similar swaps
For Skyrim players who notice immersion-breaking bare lumber mills in snowy holds and want a quick fix. If you're a modder who already uses Base Object Swapper, this is a no-brainer. Skip if you're looking for major visual overhauls—this is a niche cosmetic tweak.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have Base Object Swapper installed and enabled before adding this mod, or the snow shaders won't appear.
- Load order matters—place this mod after other mods that modify lumber mills to ensure the snow shaders apply correctly.
- If you're using a mod manager, let it handle the file placement to avoid overwriting issues.
