📋 About This Mod
SSE/VR Character Specular (and more..) Lighting Fix
Due to a bug in the game's character lighting shaders, all lighting other than Diffuse was broken unless your character was pointing straight north, and even then it wasn't necessarily working correctly. This mod is a patched shader file that patches all of the affected shaders, fixing one of the nastiest bugs in SSE/SVR.
Installation
Install like any other mod. It just replaces the file that's inside the Shaders bsa, so a loose file will override it.
SSE Users
Skyrim SE 1. 5. 80 and higher include this fix, you do not need it for those versions.
SVR Users
May conflict with some character lighting related features on ENB (SSS). I've passed this along to Boris for inclusion in ENB.

📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved fix with 1,872 endorsements and 32k downloads—clearly works for a lot of people.
- Targets a specific, annoying visual bug that can ruin immersion when you're not facing north.
- Works for both SE and VR, so VR players get some love too.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2019—might not be tested with the latest game patches, so there's a small compatibility risk.
- Only fixes one specific lighting bug; if you're expecting broader visual improvements, this isn't it.
- No detailed installation instructions or compatibility notes, so you're on your own if something conflicts.
For Skyrim SE or VR players who've noticed character lighting looks wrong unless they face north—this is a must-have fix. If you haven't seen the bug, you might not need it, but it's a small download that could save you from a weird visual glitch.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's a simple bug fix, just drop the files into your Data folder or use your mod manager—no special setup needed.
- If you're using a mod manager, make sure to enable the mod after installing to ensure it overwrites any conflicting lighting mods.
- If you play VR, double-check that the mod is compatible with your VR setup—it's listed for both, but it's always good to test.
