📋 About This Mod
Remakes the uvs and textures of Nordic Runestones. The stones now use various types of rock, and each stone is made of one seamless piece of rock. The original mod is required to actually place the stones around Skyrim, and I would be glad if more modders used them. It is a waste to only see each once if you can even find it.
The mod comes in vanilla/CM and PBR variants, pick PBR if you use Community Shaders. PG is not required since the meshes are unique, I set them up beforehand. My meshes need to overwrite the original mod.
Creation details:
The original meshes used a photo of the rune and a separate texture for the back of the stones. I made masks of the runes from the photos and used them to apply paint materials. I upscaled the original front textures and the masks made from them, but they were only used to tint the runes. The front and back sides of the stones were merged and the uvs re-unwrapped. I applied various rock materials on the stones and added some dirt and scratches. The workflow was: Blender - merging (sometimes editing the mesh), unwrapping, reprojecting the mask and og texture to the new uvs, exporting to nif and obj (for Mixer), and then doing edits in Mixer, and finally editing paths and colliders inside the nifs. The most time consuming and annoying part was having to do the the repeated steps for each of the stones. There is some ugly uv stretching going on in places, but it's not that noticeable.
This mod replaces the textures for the Nordic Runestones mod with fully remade realistic versions, supporting vanilla, complex material, and PBR rendering. It's a visual upgrade for players who want more authentic stone textures. With 116 endorsements and over 10,000 downloads, it's a modestly popular enhancement.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Over 10,000 downloads show it's got a solid user base.
- 116 endorsements from the community.
- Covers multiple rendering modes (vanilla, complex material, PBR) so you can use it regardless of your setup.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires the original Nordic Runestones mod to work, so it's not standalone.
- Only affects textures, so if you're looking for new meshes or gameplay changes, this isn't it.
- Compatibility with other texture overhauls for runestones could be a concern, so you might need to manage load order.
For Skyrim players who use the Nordic Runestones mod and want more realistic, high-quality stone textures. If you're into PBR or complex material setups, this is a must-have. Skip if you don't use that mod or prefer vanilla textures.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have the original Nordic Runestones mod installed first, as this is a texture replacer.
- If you're using a mod manager, let it overwrite the original textures to ensure the new ones take effect.
- For PBR support, ensure your game is set up for complex material rendering (e.g., with ENB or other mods).
