Riiiinnnnggg!.

The sounds that Lucia's one-handed sword made as the first foot-or-so broke off were both loud and alarming!

"What are you going to do now?" her tall swordsmanship instructor called to her as he tossed the broken section of her steel blade from his notch-backed sword-breaker sword, his smile as wicked as the look in his dark-brown eyes.

"This!" the raven-haired, blue-eyed beauty shouted back as she tossed her ruined weapon onto the indoor training arena's dirt floor and instantly stripped off her steel gauntlets.  Without thinking about it, she lifted both hands and aimed her slender fingers at the imperious man.  Sparks flying from her fingertips, her eyes narrowing in concentration, she sent a steady stream of lightning bolts coursing toward her now hapless opponent.  She didn't want to kill him for what he'd just done, just punish him a little.  Therefore, she was working hard to throttle the intensity of her Destruction Magic.  Vastly vexed that he'd just ruined her favorite sword, she contented herself with simply making him suffer for a few agonizing heartbeats.

"How dare you break my family's blade!" she icily told Carrera, her voice dripping with contempt.  "That was a dirty trick."

His mind rapidly clearing, his own rage now building, Captain Carrera pushed himself to one knee, then came to his feet.  "There are only dirty tricks on the battlefield," he told her angrily, his eyes blazing defiance.  "You should be thankful I snapped that old blade here in training.  You would now be dead if it had broken during a real fight."

Lucia snorted in derision, scoffing at the idea.  Her expressive eyes continuing to flash angrily, she retorted, "Be glad t
