Kels the Insane Renewal

She has the trademark "thousand yard stare" of a soldier that has seen one too many battles. Her mind is just...gone. She hears voices in her head and talks to them. It's Kels the Insane.

Kels is a Nord, with all of the typical Nord prejudices. She joined the Legion strictly for the purpose of defending her homeland. She fought with great distinction in the Great War. But war is brutal, and only the very lucky are able to escape its adverse consequences for long. And so, after a vicious Thalmor ambush, Kels came to be found, bloody and unconscious, just outside of Shor's Stone. The locals patched her up, eventually nursing her back to a healthy state. Once she could walk again, she slowly made her way back to Solitude.

Things weren't going to get any better for her there. She was put back on active duty, but her odd behavior frightened many of her fellow soldiers. They initially thought she was possessed. She was sent to the Temple of the Divines, hoping that they could exorcise her demons. This all went for naught, so the Legion finally had no choice but to retire her from service.

This made her bitter at first, but over the years she slowly began to regret taking so many young lives in the Great War, even though she saved so many others of her kind by doing so. Her regretful thoughts, unfortunately, never entirely offset a deep-rooted resentment towards elven-kind, who took the lives of so many of her friends. This internal clash invariably adds greatly to her mental torment. And then there are the concussive hard blows to the head, from multiple hard-fought battles.

She has been wandering around Solitude for many years, existing on a small stipend she receives from her years of service in the Legion. The locals tend to give her a wide berth, and they no doubt whisper about the crazy ex-soldier behind her back. She occasionally takes on mercenary work when it comes along, but the offers have slowly decreased as she has gotten older. She has trouble letting go of her Legion past (the voices tell her those damn elves could invade again at any time), which is why she always wears the same old, rapidly deteriorating armor that she managed to scrounge from somewhere.

Kels just wanders around Solitude, because she doesn't have any family to return home to. She goes to the tavern in the evening. She has no place to live, so some of her soldier friends that feel sorry for her let her sneak into Castle Dour at night. She sleeps by a fireplace in the dungeon.

She is in her own world, right there in her mind, and knows nothing about this Dragonborn business. She still has her old Nord beliefs, and doesn't care for outsiders. She has a complicated personality, and won't take up with just anybody. She's your typical racist Nord, but this whole civil war thing is confusing to her. She won't take sides.
