Patch for JK's Skyrim for Simplicity of Snow (mostly for Dawnstar), in order to not have snow under roofs (and also to add snow to things that were missing it).
This involved removing a couple of roofs, adding meshes to remove snow and switching out some walkways assets. In general, I kept as much of the JK decor as I possibly could, all while introducing as few assets as possible, and overall trying to keep the changes simple, while also changing anything that was immersion breaking for me. Unless you were directly comparing, you might not even notice anything had been removed.
Requirements:
JK's Skyrim
Simplicity of Snow
This patch should go below both (technically you don't actually need Simplicity of Snow in order to use this patch, but then you must have an SMIM like Simplicity of Snow requires, and you must have something else that adds a snow shader).
There are NO navmesh or light source changes in this mod. The only world cell edits are in The Pale, specifically the fishing dock by the Nightingale Inn, and the Dawnstar dock area and a few of the Dawnstar building entrances. So generally compatible with anything that doesn't edit those things. The inns in Morthal and Winterhold will still have the entrances fixed, since the inn asset was modified to expand the snow decal to fit the JK's Skyrim inn roof, but Winterhold or Morthal overhauls will work fine.
NOT compatible with COTN Dawnstar or Great Cities mods that include Dawnstar.
Many thanks to wSkeever for creating Simplicity of Snow, and for keeping the permissions open, which allowed me to copy and modify snow decal meshes.
This patch fixes snow placement issues in JK's Skyrim when using Simplicity of Snow, mainly in Dawnstar. It removes snow under roofs, adds missing snow, and adjusts walkways while preserving JK's decor. Requires JK's Skyrim and Simplicity of Snow, and is incompatible with COTN Dawnstar and Great Cities mods that include Dawnstar.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-trusted with 205 endorsements and nearly 8k downloads.
- Preserves JK's decor as much as possible while fixing immersion-breaking snow issues.
- Lightweight patch with no navmesh or light changes, so it's generally safe with other mods.
⚠️ Cons
- Incompatible with COTN Dawnstar and Great Cities mods that include Dawnstar, which limits options for those popular overhauls.
- Requires both JK's Skyrim and Simplicity of Snow, so it's not for players using only one of them.
- If you don't use Simplicity of Snow, you'll need an SMIM-like mod and a snow shader, adding extra setup.
For Skyrim modders who use both JK's Skyrim and Simplicity of Snow and want to fix snow clipping in Dawnstar. It's perfect for those who value immersion and visual consistency without sacrificing JK's aesthetic. Skip if you use Dawnstar overhauls like COTN or Great Cities, or if you don't care about snow placement details.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Place this patch below both JK's Skyrim and Simplicity of Snow in your load order to ensure it overwrites correctly.
- If you're not using Simplicity of Snow, make sure you have an SMIM-like mod and a snow shader mod installed, or the patch won't work as intended.
- Avoid using this patch with Dawnstar overhauls like COTN or Great Cities, as they conflict with the edited areas.
