Happy Little Trees doesn't touch those pines added by Dawnguard in Forgotten Vale and by Dragonborn on Solstheim. I fixed it by simply replacing those atrocious trees with normal pines found in Skyrim using great Base Object Swapper. It's not an expansion of the original mod, more of a band-aid fix until proper support will be done in a core mod.
