📋 About This Mod
Flat World Map Framework (FWMF)
1. 5. 97, 1. 6.xxx, 1. 7. 99 and GOG Edition compatible
FOMOD installer includes fixes, compatibility patches and SKSE plugins for all versions. You don't need to install anything else from Optional/Misc files unless you need very specific things and you know what you are doing.
Framework FOMOD bundled with very few maps in it. You will most likely want to complement basic FWMF with standalone maps. Thumbnails and links to them are below.
This mod improves ideas from older flat map designs (by Chesko, Penguin, Warburg, Duncanlarsen1, Nushu, deland) to create stable, clean, strictly flat paper-like maps. Topographical Map of Skyrim by Timothy Cook was an inspiration for this framework, but countless custom fantasy-themed maps are available now.
Maps for a framework cover not only mainland Skyrim, but many smaller regional vanilla worldspaces, game's DLCs and quest/landmass mods.
Maps included in FOMOD installer:
-
[]Unmarked Clean - with no handmade markers for those who prefer less spoilers, [/]
[]Marked Clean - with all handmade markers and names of geographical locations, [/]
[]Marked Old Map - same as Marked but with old paper vibes, [/]
-
[]Geology Survey Map - 4K map stylized to look like 1890x topographic map with ore veins and mines main ore marked. [/]
[]Skyrim Paper Map by Aesoterik for FWMF [/]
[]Satellite Skyrim Map for FWMF [/]
[]Unmarked Old - with no handmade markers for those who prefer less spoilers but on old paper.[/]
Standalone maps for vanilla areas (Skyrim, Solstheim and regions), with links to the mods:
[]Paper Skyrim and Solstheim World Maps by Mirhayasu [/]
[]Drath Samid's Skyrim World Map [/]
[]Paper Blackreach Map for FWMF [/]

Flat World Map Framework (FWMF) replaces Skyrim's default 3D map with a flat 2D version, offering a cleaner and more traditional map view. With nearly 10,000 endorsements and 3.2 million downloads, it's a highly popular UI overhaul for players who prefer a simpler map interface.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Massive community trust: 9,688 endorsements and 3.2 million downloads—this is a staple mod.
- Simple, focused change: if you hate the 3D map, this gives you the classic flat look without extra bloat.
- Actively updated (April 2026), so it's likely compatible with current Skyrim versions.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires a mod manager for proper installation, which might be a hurdle for newbies.
- If you like the 3D map's depth, this mod isn't for you—it's a complete replacement, not a toggle.
For Skyrim players who prefer a traditional, flat map over the default 3D one. If you're a UI purist or find the 3D map disorienting, this is a must-have. Skip if you enjoy the immersive 3D map or want more map customization options.
