📋 About This Mod
My first mod I ever created was a hacked together balance patch for Dynamic Dodge Shot. The intention was good and it was decently implemented given my abilities at the time but left a lot to be desired and the fact it requires 3 different files is insane. So Ive remade it from complete scratch and left nothing on the table.
The way it works:
Dodge shot cannot be used in heavy armor, instead you will use Witcher Dodge left and right dodge animations and Simple TK Dodge Sidestep back dodge animations.
Both the original dodge shot and the heavy armor dodge version require 30 stamina to use, if you do not have 30 stamina you will use God of War Kratos Dodge instead.
Optional cool down included, every time you use a regular dodge shot you will not be able to use it again for 8 seconds and will instead use the mid level Witcher dodge animations.
i-Frames have been implemented as well. The mid-tier Witcher dodges have 0. 25 seconds of invulnerability. Dodge Shot’s i-Frames have been nerfed from almost a full second down to 0. 3 seconds. Flying across the map is strong enough on its own.
Technical details
Because of the way Dodge Shot is implemented and being a completely new set of animations and commands, there's no way to simply disable the dodge shot behind conditions like perk locking it. If you try to dodge shot and the only animation preset is perk locked you'll just T-pose. Because of this I had to pull from other animations to use in its place. I did the rest of the work by just adding i-Frames and stamina cost annotations to the animations. No lag no mess. Everything is easily editable in OAR and the costs can be easily edited in the payload file.
(I'll be re-releasing my Trueshot mod soon which will have this completely integrated into the archery tree as well as Bow Rapid Combo v3 receiving similar cost, progression, and balance treatment. Keep an eye out for it if this kinda game play balance interests you!)
This mod rebalances and integrates Smooth's Dynamic Dodge Shot for better gameplay. It adjusts cost, scaling animations, and adds an optional cooldown. With 50 endorsements and 5,285 downloads, it's a niche but appreciated tweak for players using that dodge mechanic.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Solid download count (5,285) shows real interest from the community
- Author revisited their own mod with modern techniques, so it's a labor of love
- Optional cooldown gives you control over how you want to play
⚠️ Cons
- Only 50 endorsements, so it's a niche mod that hasn't caught on widely
- No explicit compatibility notes, so it might clash with other gameplay overhauls
- Last updated in November 2025, so it may not be actively maintained for future game patches
For players who already use Smooth's Dynamic Dodge Shot and want a more balanced, integrated version. If you're looking for a complete dodge overhaul from scratch, this isn't it—it's a refinement of an existing mod. Skip if you prefer the original's raw feel or don't use dodge mechanics.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you're using a mod manager, just drop the file in and enable it—no extra steps needed.
- Test the cooldown setting in a low-stakes fight to see if it fits your playstyle before committing.
- Since it's a balance mod, pair it with other gameplay tweaks carefully to avoid overlapping changes.
