📋 About This Mod

While I love Vaelka's Dawn of Skyrim mod, I do not like how all the NPCs added are flagged as essential. They are not connected to a quest or anything like that so there really is no reason for them to be essential.

This mod simply changes all of the added NPCs' essential flags to 'protected' meaning they can now be killed by the player (and only by the player). I made this tweak for myself and thought others might want it as well.

Modpocalypse version available as well.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

This small patch modifies Vaelka's Dawn of Skyrim mod, changing all added NPCs from essential to protected so the player can kill them. It's a simple tweak for players who want more freedom in their game. A Modpocalypse version is also available.

✨ Key Features

Changes all Dawn of Skyrim added NPCs from essential to protected
NPCs can be killed by the player only
Modpocalypse version available

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Gives you the freedom to kill those extra NPCs without breaking quests (28 endorsements)
  • Tiny patch that does exactly what it says—no bloat
  • Includes a Modpocalypse version for those using that setup

⚠️ Cons

  • Requires the original Dawn of Skyrim mod to work—this is just a patch
  • Low endorsement count (28) means it's a niche tweak, not a community favorite
  • Potential compatibility risk if Dawn of Skyrim updates and changes NPC flags
🎯 Is This For You?
For Skyrim players who use Dawn of Skyrim but hate that the added NPCs are unkillable. If you want a more lethal world where those extra citizens can actually die, this is for you. Skip if you're fine with essential NPCs or don't use Dawn of Skyrim.
📦 Install:Easy· Under 1 minute

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure you have Dawn of Skyrim installed first, then drop this patch after it in your load order.
  • If you use Modpocalypse, grab that version instead to keep your NPC overhauls compatible.
  • Protected NPCs can still die from your attacks, but not from other NPCs or accidents—so don't expect random dragon attacks to wipe them out.
