📋 About This Mod
So previously, if you use CotR - HQ Characters creation, you would need patches between that and many--and I do mean many--races that affect race conditions like Survival Mode, dialogues, race overhauls, etc. Then comes along Race Compatibility SKSE (RCS), a modern solution to the old RaceCompatibility that patches custom races from its core (GetIsRace condition). And while CotR works just fine with the old mod, I want to get rid of my bajillion ActorProxy dialogue patches from my load order. Enter this mod (just a tiny config file, actually).
First of all please read the description of RCS in its entirety, especially the "Switch from RaceCompatibility" section. I recommend installing a dummy plugin instead of removing the proxy keywords completely so that other mods that edit CotR races (like my other mod, here) can still work. If you're still not sure, here's a how-to breakdown:
-
[]Install Race Compatibility SKSE
[
]Install RaceCompatibility dummy plugin from the fomod (if you haven't installed the old RC at this point, no need to, you can just install the dummy plugin)[]Install CotR (I mean. duh.)
[]Install this config file
[]Optional: feel free to get rid of your RaceCompatibility dialogue patches (like this one), CotR survival mode patches, etc etc. This is the main reason I made the jump (to trim my load order of endless patches)
[]Optional: install my Human Headparts for CotR Elves fix OR the CotR Headparts patch in optional files of this mod (both require FLM) to make sure CotR elves can have hairstyles that fit their scalp. Or if you're already using it, don't get rid of it because it's still needed.
- Check in-game. The vanilla intro sequence is the best way to test (if Hadvar and Ralof can successfully recognize your CotR character as the proxied race, it means the mod is working)
I haven't tested if race mods that require startup quests (Imperious, etc) will work with just this method--it's best to ask on RCS' mod page about that (aka don't yell at me if you chucked away your CotR-Imperious patch and suddenly the mod stops working). Dialogue patches should be safe to remove, basically any mods that edit race condition checks. This is just a tiny config file.
Advanced Mode:
It's possible to completely remove RaceCompatibility.esm from your load order and edit the main CoR_AllRaces.esm plugin to get rid of its starting quests and dialogue changes, etc etc, but you would need to edit basically every other mods that also edit CotR's race records to remove the proxy keywords. If you're interested in doing this, feel free to PM me for help. For casual users, just using a dummy plugin should be enough.
This tiny config file patches CotR - HQ Characters creation for Race Compatibility SKSE, replacing the need for numerous dialogue and survival patches. It's for Skyrim players using CotR who want a cleaner load order with RCS. Requires installing RCS, a dummy plugin, and CotR first.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Streamlines load order by eliminating the need for many separate patches (author's main goal)
- Active development (last updated June 2025) with 125 endorsements from the community
- Provides a clear step-by-step installation guide, including how to handle the dummy plugin
⚠️ Cons
- Requires multiple dependencies (RCS, dummy plugin, CotR, and optional FLM for headparts) which complicates setup
- Author hasn't tested compatibility with race mods that require startup quests like Imperious
- Potential conflicts with other mods that edit CotR races if the dummy plugin isn't installed correctly
For Skyrim players who use CotR - HQ Characters creation and want to reduce patch bloat by switching to Race Compatibility SKSE. Also for modders who prefer a cleaner load order and are comfortable with a multi-step install. Skip if you don't use CotR or prefer the old RaceCompatibility system.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Install the dummy plugin from RCS's fomod even if you never had the old RaceCompatibility—it keeps other mods that edit CotR races working.
- Test the mod by starting a new game and checking if Hadvar and Ralof recognize your character's race during the intro sequence.
- If you use the optional headpart patches, make sure FLM is installed first, and don't remove your existing CotR headpart fix if you already have one.
