📋 About This Mod
Disappointed that hold guards lose their unique color scheme when a hold is taken over during the Civil War? Well this mod brings it back in a way that makes sense and still distinguishes the soldiers guarding the city from the original guard force.
-Imperial guards wear heavy or light Imperial gauntlets and boots depending on the hold they are stationed in.
-Stormcloak guards wear Stormcloak officer boots and gauntlets.
-Done entirely through SPID. ZERO NPC edits like the older versions of the mod.
-Supports Aldepius from the Creation Club.
-Extremely lightweight, works on mod added NPCs. No conflicts.
Weapons and names are unchanged. All Imperial guards still use Imperial weapons, all Stormcloak guards still use Stormcloak gear, and they're all still named "x Soldier" or "x Guard."
Thank you to Medizy for making the original Better Civil War Guards (A.k.a. Less Oppressive Occupation) many years back. It was my inspiration to make this version that works through SPID rather than needing to patch tons of NPC records and add support for modded NPCs.
Obviously requires SPID.
That's all... enjoy!
Better Civil War Guards SPID restores unique hold guard color schemes after Civil War takeovers using SPID, with zero NPC edits. It equips Imperial guards with heavy/light Imperial gear and Stormcloak guards with officer boots/gauntlets, supports Creation Club's Aldepius, and works on mod-added NPCs. Requires SPID and NPC respawns.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Zero NPC edits means no compatibility nightmares with other mods that touch guard records.
- Lightweight and works on mod-added NPCs, so it plays nice with big overhauls.
- Community-approved with 77 endorsements and over 11k downloads, so it's proven.
- Brings back the unique hold color schemes that make each city feel distinct after the war.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires SPID as a dependency, so you need to grab that first.
- You'll have to wait for NPCs to respawn or use console commands to reset them on existing saves.
- Only affects visual gear, not weapons or names, so if you wanted deeper Civil War changes this won't do it.
For Skyrim players who love immersion and hate seeing generic guard armor after the Civil War. If you're tired of every hold looking the same post-war, this is a must-have. Skip if you want gameplay overhauls—this is purely cosmetic.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure SPID is installed and loaded before this mod, and use a mod manager to avoid overwrite issues.
- If you're adding this mid-playthrough, open the console, click an affected guard, and type 'resetai' or wait for cell respawn to see the new gear.
- Since it's SPID-based, check your SPID log if guards don't update—it'll tell you if distribution failed.
