📋 About This Mod

Believable Crime Report Radius
A very simple change that reduces the crime report radius to 1000 units (14m) from the default 4000 units. (57m)

However simple this change may be, it is a good starting point if you wish to have a better stealth system in your game. Essentially, this mod makes it so that NPCs can't report your crimes to guards that are too far away. If you are in the wilderness, you will not keep your bounty any more if every eye-witness has been silenced, because they cannot psychically alert guards from a far away village. Similar mods existed for both Oblivion and Skyrim, but Skyrim SE didn't have one yet, so I created it after reading a tutorial on the Creation Kit.

Don't forget to endorse if you like my work, it both encourages me to continue making mods such as this and makes it more visible to other people on the Nexus!

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

This gameplay tweak reduces the crime report radius to 1000, meaning NPCs won't report crimes from as far away. It's for players who find the default crime detection unrealistic. A simple, popular fix with 6,149 endorsements and 507,697 downloads, last updated November 2016.

✨ Key Features

Reduces the crime report radius to 1000.
Makes NPC crime reporting less omniscient by limiting the distance.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Huge community trust — 6,149 endorsements and over half a million downloads.
  • Simple one-line tweak that doesn't overhaul anything else.
  • Solves the classic 'how did that guard see me from across the map?' problem.

⚠️ Cons

  • Very old mod — last updated in 2016, so no support for newer game versions or patches.
  • Only changes one specific value; if you want broader crime system changes, this won't do it.
  • May conflict with other mods that alter the same game setting (crime report radius).
🎯 Is This For You?
For players who hate psychic guards and want a more believable crime system without a full overhaul. Great for minimalists who want a single-setting fix with zero performance cost. Skip if you want comprehensive crime system changes or if you already use a mod that edits the same setting.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Load this after any mods that change crime or guard behavior, so its value wins.
  • Use a mod manager so you can easily toggle it off if you find 1000 too small.
  • No need to start a new game; the change applies immediately.
