📋 About This Mod
Description
Isn't it boring and unrealistic when an NPC constantly locks onto one character while the other character continues to attack?
This mod fixes the NPC to lock onto the target who is attacking him.
Tested on SE(1. 5. 97) and AE(1. 6. 1170. 0). Should be compatible with other AE versions.
Installation instructions
- Install from MO2 or Voltex as usual.
- Safe to install / uninstall in mid-game
Main features
-Basic System:
Hate-Based Target Selection :This system determines NPC target selection based on "aggro (cumulative threat level)" rather than simple distance.
Target Selection: The target with the highest aggro value is selected.
Target Maintenance (Switch Threshold): To switch targets, the aggro of the new candidate must be at least 15% higher than the current target (prevents target instability).
-Aggro Value Rule:
-Aggro Decay
The aggro will decrease by half in 30 seconds, and the anger will naturally subside if you leave the battle or if time passes.

Compativility
Maybe compatible with other combat overhaul mods.
Incompatible with Enemies Target Player Before Summons
Maybe incompatible with other mod that has target-switch mechanism.
Mechanism
By hooking into the NPC's target selection logic, I implemented "threat level" calculation system.
NPCs will behave in a way that targets actors with a higher "threat level" based on actions during combat. See the image about actions.
Target switch mechanism:
-Aggro Accumulation: Each NPC individually records aggro value towards targets attacking them.
-Target Selection: The target with the highest aggro is selected as the "Focus Target."
-Target Maintenance (Switch Threshold): To switch from the current target to another, the new target's aggro must be a certain percentage higher (15% or more) than the current target's. This prevents excessive target switching.
- Distance decay: The added Aggro Value decreases as the distance from the target increases.
- Time decay: The total amount of Aggro value decreases over time. It decays by half every 30 seconds.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Solid community backing with 501 endorsements and over 45k downloads.
- Makes combat feel more alive—enemies actually react to who's hitting them.
- Lightweight concept that can change the flow of fights without overhauling the whole game.
⚠️ Cons
- Description is thin—no details on how it interacts with other combat mods.
- Potential compatibility issues with mods that alter AI or combat behavior.
- May make fights chaotic if you're used to predictable aggro.
For Skyrim players who want smarter, more reactive enemies in combat. If you're tired of enemies ignoring your followers and only chasing you, this is for you. Skip if you prefer predictable aggro or use heavy AI overhauls that might conflict.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you use other combat mods, test this one early to see if they work together.
- Consider pairing with a mod that improves follower AI to get the most out of target switching.
- Since it's a simple mod, you can easily remove it if you don't like the behavior.
