Vortex Compatibility for Xbox XPA (EXE)

This mod provides a necessary compatibility layer for users running Silent Hill 2 (2024) through Xbox Game Pass / Xbox Play Anywhere. The Xbox version does not ship with a traditional SHProto.exe launcher, which prevents Vortex from detecting the game directory. Without a valid executable, Vortex cannot initialize proper mod deployment.

This mod adds a minimal SHProto.exe file to the game’s Content directory so Vortex can identify the installation path. The file does not modify, replace, or interact with any game systems. It is strictly a placeholder executable used for mod manager detection.

The included SHProto.txt was created from a blank text file, then renamed to SHProto.exe for Vortex compatibility.

  Installation Instructions

  • []Extract the mod archive.

    []Rename "SHProto.txt" and change the extension from .txt to ".exe"

    Your file name should now be "SHProto.exe"[]Paste it into the following directory:

    \XboxGames\Silent Hill 2\Content

    (You can paste this path directly into the Windows File Explorer address bar.)

    Locating the Folder Through the Xbox App

    • []Open the Xbox App.

      []Select Silent Hill 2.

      []Click the three-dot menu and choose “Manage.”

      []Go to the “Files” tab.

      []Click “Browse…” to open the game installation directory.

      []Navigate into the Content folder and place SHProto.exe there.

      Configuring Vortex

      • []Install the Silent Hill (2024) Vortex Extension.

        []When prompted to manually select the game folder, point Vortex to:

        \XboxGames\Silent Hill 2\Content

        • Vortex will now detect the Xbox version correctly and allow standard mod deployment.
