📋 About This Mod

Consistent 4k textures ported from Rise of the Tomb Raider but modified to look like the original 2k maps without the quality loss.

The mod is now outdated due to the release of the new DX12 mod tool and my newer version, which means you can run the textures without the low fps of the DX11 renderer.

Note, uncompressed textures can be found in the following link:

The mod is very similar to the original version released here a few years ago, but the difference is kept the diffuse maps as original as possible while also removing the eyeshadow the devs had added to the 2k maps and also added some new things.

As with the specular maps, I rebuilt the ambient occlusion map and painted it to look more closely to the original AO map while keeping some details (I couldn't just straight up port it or else the whole model looked way too dark). Pore detail also was adjusted to better this game's shaders and the shininess is actually the original but just crudely upscaled.

I suppose the biggest difference is the normal map, which is actually the A. I upscaled texture I made for Rise in June. All the detail pops up better compared to the original SOTR normal map where they actually had hard baked how the texture has less intensive details and just generally makes the model look more washed out. There's also an additional map included that adds more depth to the model, which for some reason had inverted green channels, which I fixed. That too I had A. I upscaled with the same model, but I don't think there's much of a difference. Note that I actually have used that A. I model on every single texture of this mod.

I also included new eyebrow diffuse and normal maps which I made as a mod in January for ROTR where basically I adjusted their position to look more like it does with the eyebrow textures they have baked in to the head texture maps in SOTR, so the eyebrows by default with the mod look pretty flat. Now, they actually have depth and have the same shape as the default in-game "eyebrows". The eyebrows normal map was also completely misaligned with the diffuse maps which I managed to correct quite well (I don't think it matches up 100% but I'd have to rebuilt the whole texture to fix it). I also rebuilt the eyelashes normal map which was completely broken even in ROTR. Now they actually have depth, but I'm not sure how visible this really even is if you're not looking for it.

Eyes also have brand new textures from my Tomb Raider 2013 mod where I had ported the newer Lara model. By default, I think what the devs had done is upscale the diffuse 256x or 512x textures to 1024x, then in photoshop applied a sharpness filter over them to make the texture look less blurry, but now the diffuse maps look completely odd when you look at them closely. When I was modding TR2013, I noticed that the game has the same general iris shape as the textures in SOTR, so I basically modified that game's textures look look like they do in this game but without some heavy distortion effects. In addition, the normal maps are completely wrong, they don't even have the same shape as the diffuse maps. That too I fixed as luckily in TR2013, the normal maps look the same as the diffuse maps. Schlera maps I rebuild from scratch with Photoshop while sticking to the original look. Note that the new modded eye textures I took from TR2013 are upscaled too with the same A. I model. It would be nice to one day go crazy and rebuild the whole eye texture with 4K maps while sticking with the original look (I'm not sure how well A. I upscale models would do it compared to manual labor).

However, now with all these textures, unfortunately they don't line up with rest of the game's textures. The same problem is with the original 4k mod. The shoulder and arm texture maps would have to be recreated in 4k and these modded textures would also have to be modified to line up with the SOTR textures (the diffuse maps for example have dark edges that need to be corrected) and I don't really feel like doing that at the moment. You will only notice the issue with the tribal outfits that show Lara's shoulders, like Tunic of the Exiled Fox.

How to install:

Like the other mod, you need SpecialK. But thankfully the program has evolved since then, so now you can just install the main program that comes with a nice UI where you can select the game and it automatically works without having to plug in some DLL files to the game files. Also, the software makes a profile folder you can find when you right-click the game's launcher within the UI AFTER you have launched the game once in DX11 mode. After you have created the injectables folder, place th
