📋 About This Mod

Please read

the FAQ below, this covers most common questions.

FAQ:

Does this mod cause spawning issues?

No. Multiple users including me have tested the mod and no spawning issues have been seen.

Can you make a DX12-compatible version?

Not at this time. You’re free to try running it with DX12, but it's not supported.

Why is the mod so large?

The game streams hundreds of texture archives, and many textures must be included across multiple archives, which increases the overall file size.

Is this mod compatible with other mods?

Yes, as long as the other mod does not modify the same terrain texture archives.

Why are there no proper LODs?

I tested LODs, but they currently cause multiple issues, including engine refusing to properly render some textures and slower streaming that leads to noticeable pop-in. Because of this, proper LODs are not possible at the moment.

Some textures appear black or oddly colored.

This usually indicates a corrupted download. Please re-download and reinstall mod.

Why do I get some stutters?

Minor stuttering while traveling through the map is expected, even with LODs I tested, due to streaming a large number of new textures. Performance varies, some users may notice little to no stutter, while others experience more noticeable drops.

If stuttering is worse than vanilla, try capping your FPS or using mods like Stutter Fix (make sure your are not getting VRAM limited while using this mod).

Some textures appear blurry at certain angles.

This is mainly caused by TAA/upscalers. The heightmap is shared between parallax, shadows, and texture blending, which limits how much this can be reduced without harming visual quality. The effect has already been minimized as much as possible.

TTO 3. 0 delivers a big upgrade across the map,

expanding coverage with many new textures while improving a large number of legacy TTO textures.

Replaced comparisons and added new screenshots.

Patch TL;DR

Tons of new and improved terrain textures across the map

New train track grounds, muddy roads, and Sisika Penitentiary area added

Several legacy TTO textures remade and/or improved, with enhanced parallax, closer-to-vanilla look, and reduced TAA blur

Optimizations: more BC1/BC3 compression (slight quality decrease)

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Massive community trust: 3,944 endorsements and 368k downloads show this mod is widely used and appreciated.
  • No spawning issues—tested by multiple users, so you won't break your game's creature spawns.
  • Active maintenance: last updated Feb 2026, so it's likely compatible with recent game patches.

⚠️ Cons

  • No proper LODs—expect noticeable pop-in and slower streaming, which can break immersion for distant views.
  • Stuttering is expected while traveling, especially if you're VRAM-limited; you may need to cap FPS or use a stutter fix mod.
  • Not DX12-compatible—if you're on DX12, you're on your own, and it might cause issues.
🎯 Is This For You?
For players who want a visual overhaul of terrain textures and don't mind some performance trade-offs. It's ideal for those who prioritize close-up texture quality over distant LODs and are willing to tweak settings to reduce stutter. Skip if you're on DX12 or demand smooth performance without any stutter.
📦 Install:Medium· 5-10 minutes

💡 Beginner Tips

  • If you see black or oddly colored textures, re-download and reinstall the mod—it's a corrupted download, not a mod bug.
  • To reduce stuttering, cap your FPS or install a Stutter Fix mod, and make sure you're not VRAM-limited.
  • Avoid using TAA or upscalers if you notice blurry textures at certain angles, as the heightmap sharing causes this.
