Bells and Whistles

Bells and Whistles is a Railroader mod that bundles two opt-in features for rolling-stock authors:

• []Tender Bells — mirrors the steam locomotive's bell state onto a tender-mounted Bell component, with optional headlight-direction routing.[/]

  []Flexible Connectors — generates runtime tube meshes (hoses, cables, semi-rigid pipes) between named transforms on coupled cars.[/]

  Both features are visual only. They do not add brake, steam, water, or electrical simulation. They activate only when a car definition opts in by including the matching component.

  ⚠ Upgrading from Tender Bells

  If you have the old "Tender Bells" mod installed, you must delete it before installing Bells and Whistles. The new mod ships under a different folder name (BellsAndWhistles vs the old TenderBells) and the installer will not overwrite the old folder — running both at the same time loads two copies of the bell logic and can cause patching conflicts.

    The legacy token in tender bell names is still recognized, so existing tender packs keep working without any JSON changes.

      []New feature: Flexible Connectors. Runtime tube meshes (hoses, cables, semi-rigid pipes, chain) generated between named transforms on the same or coupled cars. Six built-in presets, JSON authoring, optional editor-menu support via Legotrainman's Library of Stuff.[/]

      []Connector physics hardening. Bend constraint rewritten as point-to-line projection to eliminate Gauss-Seidel amplification cascades that could send the chain to tens of meters within a single solver iteration. Slerp defended against NaN at exactly antiparallel directions. AxialSegments off-by-one fixed so the JSON value now matches the visible face count.[/]

      []7,792 headless invariant tests. The sim runs entirely on System. Numerics. Vector3 with pure-C# math, so dotnet test exercises the full simulation surface (parameter sweeps, world-coordinate equivariance, motion patterns, duration / dt fuzz) in roughly fifteen seconds without launching the game.[/]
